WWW WEDNESDAY - NOVEMBER 25

November 25, 2020

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

The three W’s stand for:

What did you recently finish reading?
What are you currently reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

I was suffering the worst slump I've experienced in a long time. I think it's finally over. I found some great reads this past week, lifting my spirits up and encouraging me to try to complete my reading goals before the end of the year. I hope you all have been having an amazing week!

What I've Read

reads of the week
1. Lord of London Town by Tillie Cole - ★★★★★ - like a modern-day Peaky Blinders, this story tore me right out of my reading funk!
2. Die, My Love anthology - ★★★★☆ - this horror piece messed with my head. There were no good guys, a lot of psychotic moments, and in the end, I was laughing because it was horrific. Great job!
3. Son of Chaos by Lexi Foss - ★★★★★ - I found this author's work this year and I'm so glad I did. She writes supernatural stories that are engaging and entertaining and so amazing! I'm in love with these characters and can't wait to continue the series!
4. Torn by Ditter Kellen - ★★☆☆☆ - A fallen angel, desperate to make it back to Heaven, falls in love with a deathly ill mortal. It was sweet, but I was bored for most of it.
5. Unsuitable Companions by Erin Lee - ★★☆☆☆ - loads of potential...
6. Arija and The Burning City by Zachary Paul Chopchinski - ★★★★☆ - this was a suprisingly great read. I've never even heard of this author before, but I really liked what I found here.
7. Chasing Fate by J.R. Thorn - DNF - I was set to dive in until I realized that it was a reverse harem story. Yeah... no.

What I'm Reading

Devil's Claim by Dariel Raye & Muffy Wilson - Generations ago, he died for her. Now, it’s her turn.

Pride kept them from looking at one another, but their bodies could not lie. Recognition lived in their souls, rekindling memories of passion, love, betrayal….and death.

Apache Elder Aidan Stringfellow, V, is a very wealthy man with one wish – to free his only son, the brilliant, yet abrasive David, from the curse that has plagued his family for generations. When his controversial plan for a cure is revealed, shock and disbelief are only the beginning, for David has deadly, yet beguiling secrets of his own.

Choosing to honor Aidan’s wishes, David and Katala unwittingly awaken an ancient evil desperate to lay claim to the last-born Stringfellow – David. The tumultuous consequences of a vengeful pact spanning generations, defies time, tradition, and death itself.

Katala finds herself falling in love with a man whose gaze and touch ignite long-forgotten passion, propelling her to fight for his life. She unearths one devastating clue after another on her winding journey toward the truth, but unseen forces escalate their attack as truth collides with myth. Clinging desperately to her own sanity, she must find a way to reconcile the two, for even her own identity comes into question. Trust no one. Not even David.

Time is running out. Promises will be kept, and if the devil has his way, souls will be claimed.

What I'll Read Next

My old crush here sums it up nicely. I'm still going with the flow because it's working!!

Until Lex Evans showed up.
She tore down the walls I’d thrown around my heart brick by brick.
She reduced me to rubble, so she could build me back up.

Lex:
I am the girl people abandon and I’ve accepted that.
I don’t say no because I don’t know how and people take advantage of it.
I hoped he’d be different. It seemed like he was.
Carter Ross swept into my life and I didn’t say no.
But this time, I didn’t want to.
His walls are up so high, but I can see the cracks.

When he leaves, I’ll be the one to break.

HOSTED BY:

Ten Books From My Bookshelves I've Yet To Read

Happy Tuesday and welcome to another TTT! This meme is hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's theme is a Thanksgiving/I’m Thankful for… Freebie. In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving in October, so while my American counterparts will be gifting us with their 'thankful lists', I'm going to concentrate on the books that stare me in the face, day after day, and I still haven't picked them up.
some books on my bookshelves
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - there are a ton of mixed reviews for this book, but I was gifted a copy and I promised myself that despite the hype (positive or negative), I would try to approach it with an open mind.

Fury by Laurann Dohner - I can't believe I still haven't read this author. This is the first book in her New Species series and I can't wait to crack it open.

The Fall by Kate Stewart - I haven't read this author before, but I've heard amazing things and I'm hoping to become a huge fan.

Rebel by Callie Hart - this is one of my favorite authors and I've made it my mission to have everything she's written. I don't know why I still haven't read her Dead Man's Ink series.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell - I already know... I'm probably one of the last people to not read this author. I've had this book waiting for me for quite some time and I'm hoping to get to it soon.

Sugar Daddy by Sawyer Bennett - when I heard that this author's Sugar Bowl series was a 'must-read' series, I knew I had to get it.

Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright - when I became a fan of paranormal romance, this was one of the author's recommended to me most. I'm hoping I love her work just as much as expected.

Fatal Affair by Marie Force - I freaking love this author's writing and everything I've read from her Fatal series has been fantastic. But I'm one of those people who reads series all out of order. Not always, but in this case, most definitely. So I have the first book so I can get to know the characters from the start.

Midnight Lily by Mia Sheridan - it's been awhile since I've read this author, but I've got quite a few of her books on my shelves. From what I've read from her, her books are emotional, evocative stories and I'm hoping this one is no different.

The Beast by J.R. Ward - I read all of the books up until this one. And it's funny, because I have this and the following books and even some of the legacy ones and still haven't read them. I might have to do a re-read of the series before I pick this one up. I loved this series!!

The year is almost done and my reading wasn't up to my usual standards. It kinda sucks. I'm crossing my fingers that I get to at least one of these books before the end of December and that 2021 is a better reading year for me (and for those of you in the same boat).

If you've got a TTT, leave a link to it below so I can check out your post too. Happy reading!

Son of Chaos by Lexi C. Foss // Review

November 22, 2020

Son of Chaos by Lexi C. Foss
"God, Xai, I hate how much I love you, but I do. You're my reason, too. My mate. The one who always knows how to piece me back together."

Son of Chaos by Lexi C. Foss

Release: February 6, 2019
Dark Provenance #2
Genre: Paranormal/Supernatural Romance
Dual POV: 1st person
Heat level: 4
Format/Source: Amazon ebook purchase
Length: 183 pages

A simple mission turns deadly as the Daughter of Death is kidnapped by an old enemy seeking revenge. Now it’s up to me to find her and I will kill anyone who steps in my path.

The Son of Chaos isn’t playing. I’m armed, I’m pissed, and I want my Evangeline back. It’s time for Heaven and Hell to meet the real Archangel inside of me.

Everyone will pay.
Many will die.
Silver will slay.

And a new power will ascend from the Shadows…
It's close to U.S. Thanksgiving (although I'm a Canadian living in Canada) and I've found something else to be thankful for. Finding this author's books this year has been my absolute pleasure!

When it comes to creating angels and demons and the worlds they exist in, Lexi C. Foss infuses so much magic and wonder and mysticism in her work, I can't help but fall in love with whatever comes out of it. The story of Xai and Eve... magnificent!

🌠 these two have loved each other for thousands of years. Not only was it obvious, it was felt. Their emotions, their feelings, their lust, wants and dreams were present in every part of this story.
🌠 the action... I loved what the author was able to do to showcase each of their strengths. Even when at her weakest, it was Eve's bond with Xai that kept her strong. And then Xai... can he be anymore amazing??? I'm so ready to see what else these two can do.
🌠 the moving plot, which is obviously far from over, kept me engaged and entertained. The next book can't come soon enough for me.

I don't want to give too much away, so I've been intentionally vague. However, I do want to point out that there are a plethora of side characters to be intrigued by as well. From the Archdemons finding their mates to the other Archangels and what will happen to the ancients, to everything in between... I have no idea what's in store for these people but I'll be there for all of it!

USA Today Bestselling Author Lexi C. Foss loves to play in dark worlds, especially the ones that bite. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and their furry children. When not writing, she’s busy crossing items off her travel bucket list, or chasing eclipses around the globe. She’s quirky, consumes way too much coffee, and loves to swim.

The Perfect Wife by Zoe Blake
The Connoisseur by Addison Cain
Becoming by Celia Aaron
My Bloody Valentine by SJ Cole
Fool for Love by Julia Sykes
Chilling Seduction by Jane Henry
All Wrapped Up in a Bow by Ashleigh Giannoccaro
This was a super quick and super fun read! It was pure madness and I loved it. From one story to the next, I was busting around one dark corner only to be immersed in shadows. There was so much darkness, depravity, and disease. Well, disease of the mind anyway. I enjoyed the way that each story bled into the other, linking characters and creating drama in a seamless and yet chaotic fashion.

There's a wife who slowly (quickly) loses her mind, the disgusting doctor who wasn't interested in helping anyone but himself, the seemingly prince charming who was a necrophiliac in disguise, and the people who orchestrated it all. Death and destruction... that's what this collection is about and I think anyone who likes a bit of horror/weirdness in their lives should give it a go.

Lord of London Town by Tillie Cole // Review + Excerpt

November 19, 2020

Lord of London Town by Tillie Cole
We were here. Together. He had let me breach his high, impenetrable walls. I knew it would take time to hammer through the rest. But I wasn’t fazed by the task. I was inspired. To know all of this man. To have him love me and let me see his soul. It was worth it all.

MY LAST TEN 5-STAR READS

November 17, 2020

Happy Tuesday and welcome to another TTT! This meme is hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's theme is Characters I’d Name a Pet After. I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not a 'pet' kind of girl and so this theme is not something I can even begin to try. I love animals, but I'm allergic to just about everything but a goldfish, so... I decided to do my own post this week and since I've been in the worst book funk in all my years of reading, I thought I'd reflect on the books that gave me good vibes this year to give myself a good pickmeup.
