HUNDREDS by Pepper Winters

“I'm done hurting her. She's been hurt enough. It's time I set her free...”

~ Synopsis ~
Once upon a time, I wished to go home and forget.
Now, I’m strong and ready to fight.
Seduced and claimed, Elder no longer just demands my voice, he commands me to be a thief like him.
I refuse.
But he offers me things I shouldn’t want, favours I should run from.
In return for his protection, I’m ordered to steal enough pennies and dollars to buy back my freedom.
Only, we both aren’t prepared for how he changes me, evolves me.

~ Review ~
This book was chockfull of filler. Aside from a few key pieces of new information, the rest of this instalment consisted of repetitive thoughts and redundant scenes. I've read so many titles by this author and have never encountered this. While I skipped and skidded my way through a lot of chapters about nothing, I kept wondering if there was a point to all of this. There must be a method to this madness, right? I still haven't found the reason and I'm hoping, if I continue with this series, that it either becomes clear or doesn't happen again. It was bad enough that it took every ounce of patience I had to get through everything Pimlico had to offer. To endure her utter blandness and what ended up coming across like a long run-on sentence that made a book, I was at the end of my rope. The only way I was able to keep on going was because each page gave me more of Elder Prest.

I felt guilty for doing nothing.
I felt ashamed for expecting everything.

Why is Elder still made to feel that he's the bad guy? It couldn't be more obvious to readers that he's neither good or bad. He makes the most out of every situation and sometimes he has to do the 'wrong' thing. It only endears me more to his humanity. But then there's Pim constantly treating him like a villain. Then she sends mixed messages because she throws words like 'love' and 'trust' around, without knowing what those words really mean. If you love and trust someone, you don't constantly second guess their motives. You don't constantly condemn them or liken them to the monster they saved you from. For everything that Elder has done for this chick, why is she still allowed to give him nothing? He humbles himself for her, humiliates and embarrasses himself for her, gives into and compromises for her, cares and considers her, and she gives him... what? Judgment? Disgust? Fear? Ignorance? He deserves so much better than her and for everyone who has praised this female or lauded her in any way, I'm wondering if we've been reading the same story.

I don't think I can take much more of Pimlico. She keeps putting herself in Elder's way, trying to learn every little thing about him, and yet she won't even give the man her name. She gives him NOTHING!! Nothing about her past, none of her real thoughts and feelings (barely), nothing real. But she wants to know the inner workings of this man's mind, his hopes and dreams and wants, his every desire and thought. I hate her so freaking much!! I'm probably going to read the next book, with A LOT of hesitation, because I adore Elder. This book also mentioned one of my first loves, Jethro Hawk, and I think he might be making an appearance. For these two men alone, I'll continue with this series. However, I really hope Pim gets a major personality adjustment because, with the way I feel about her right now, this character could drown in the ocean and I'd feel absolutely nothing.
