I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.

The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.

Killian Shepard.

Shep.

We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.

He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.

He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.

So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.

I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.
Now we’re one big happy f*cking family.

My Review

This story was absolutely brilliant! I have never liked stories that deal with multiple love interests and love triangles are a definite no-no. I typically stay away from them like the plague, so as much as possible. I do everything that I can to protect my heart. So with much hesitation, I started this story. And not only was I pleasantly surprised, but this author completely blew me away. Her writing was fantastic. The story flips from past to present to past and it was done fluidly. Everything she did worked and somehow she made this story easy and enjoyable for me to read. Kudos to you K.L. Kreig!!

I went into this knowing that my heart would be broken. In any love triangle, everything cannot come out roses. The main love focus will always be the bad guy because someone will be hurt. There is no way of avoiding that. Someone will not be chosen and that's a fact. So I knew that someone was going to be left broken. It was only a matter of who and when.

K.L. Kreig gave us Maverick (h), Kael (H) and his brother Killian. Maverick has always loved both brothers. They all grew up together. Their parents are best friends, their dads run the same company, and their lives have always included each other. But romantic love blossomed between Mavs and Killian. Unfortunately, he saw her as being too young. Until one day she wasn't. They were on the cusp of their HEA, they finally had each other and life was blissful. Killian even went so far as to go to Florida to prepare a life for them. But when he came home, he married her sister. SHOCKER !! For two years, Mavs had to live with this truth. She had to try to accept not only their marriage, but the heartbreak and the betrayal. She finally decides to marry Kael, the brother and man who has ALWAYS loved her.

Along the way in this story, it became painfully obvious that Killian's marriage wasn't perfect. His wife was a witch! But we are all left wondering as to the reasons to why he left Mavs behind. Especially when it was glaringly obvious throughout the story how much he truly loved her. There was never a doubt to his love for her or her love for him. But Kael was just so freaking wonderful and swoon-worthy and so over-the-top in love with her that Mavs couldn't help but fall in love with him too. DILEMMA !! When everything finally comes to light, who will be standing together? And who will be left out in the cold? I'm not telling. Just know that this was a great book and I am completely satisfied with the choice the author made as to who gets the HEA. I'm choosing to believe that the brother who didn't "win" will one day find a new love and his own happiness.
