Throwback Thursday // Rock Stars

November 30, 2023

Hey everyone and welcome to another Throwback Thursday! Every week I'll be sharing my book recommendations within a romantic trope or theme.

Today I'm sharing the first five Rock Star romance books I loved and reviewed on the blog. I haven't read a ton of stories with this theme, but the ones I found... magnifique!

If you happen to know of a book in this trope that you think I'd love, please let me know down below :)

Sentenced by L.L. Collins

As per my review: Recommended to lovers of rock band stories and to those who love internal struggles with beautiful rewards

The entire series was a joy to read. There were broken characters, great connections, and it was all well-written. I would love to read more stories like these ones.

Fall With Me by Jayne Frost

One of my favourite bloggers, Jessica @Chatterbooks Book Blog, recommended this author's debut and I'm so glad I took the leap. You know it's a good book that it being the second in a series, it makes you want to read the first.

And yes, the first book was a solid read as well :)

Midnight Blue by L.J. Shen

I haven't read from this author in a while, but this is the last book of hers that I absolutely LOVED! These characters were both painful and beautiful and I didn't want to let them go in the end. Seriously, there should have been a book #2.

My One Regret by Claudia Burgoa

This is easily one of my favourite books by this author! It's a second chance romance, with one character breaking both of their hearts for their own good. Tragedy bring them back together and everything between them, despite all of the pain, was absolutely wonderful.

Once again, it's Jessica's fault that I tried this author out. I know that she writes books with menage (which I don't like anymore *womp womp*), but this book doesn't have it. It has really great characters, an enemies to lovers theme with characters that never felt like enemies, and a whole lot of smutty love. It gave me a taste of what this author has to offer and I definitely need to go back for more.

My Rating - ★★★★
Release - June 23, 2023
Genre/Trope - Contemporary Romance / rockstar / second chance
POV - Dual 1st person
Heat - 4 out of 5
Format - ebook borrowed from Kindle Unlimited

She was the first rule I ever broke.
She’ll be the last.

In the beginning, there was Savannah Shaw.
Teasing me with a mischievous, merciless grin by day.
Crawling through my window with tear-stained cheeks by night.

I was ordered to avoid her.
Lectured on her misdeeds.
Forbidden from seeing her.
But my need to protect her was innate.
So natural I never questioned it.
So visceral I couldn’t fight it.

She was the first rule I ever broke, and it’s why I lost her the first time.

Now, out of nowhere, there is Sav Loveless.
World famous frontwoman for The Hometown Heartless,
Hollywood’s newest up-and-coming film star,
and my daughter’s idol.

Her reputation for trouble precedes her,
but the celebrity who sets foot in my small town is no longer a girl in need of protection.
She’s a woman who has saved herself,
and this time, it’s my life that’s falling apart.

Maintaining the distance between us is imperative,
but everything about her pulls at every part of me.
My need to touch her clouds my logic.
My need to have her, to own her, to love her.

She’ll be the last rule I ever break,
but this time, it will be to keep her.

Between Never and Forever by Brit Benson

My Two Cents

I've found a new author to follow and I blame Jessica @Chatterbooksbookblog. If it weren't for her spectacular review, I wouldn't be typing this up.

Savannah and Levi grew up together. Both of their lives were full of torment and they were each other's only true comfort. They were friends and loved each other before they even knew what love was. And when circumstances separated them, that love continued to beat within their hearts, not allowing anyone else to touch it.

Fastforward and now Levi's a widower with a child and Savannah is an infamous rock star. Circumstances once again forced them into each other's orbit and after a thankfully brief time of miscommunication, these two found their way back to each other. There were plenty of hurdles and obstacles that they had to leap and punch their way through, but it was incredibly easy to root for these two.

I loved that the author didn't shy away from sharing Savannah's addiction and how it was wrecking not only her life, but those around her. I felt proud and hopeful of the woman she was becoming and that's all because of this author's writing. It was easy to be a little imp on this character's shoulder, egging her on, supporting her, shouting NO, and celebrating every one of her triumphs. I couldn't be more pleased with the way this story played out.

I'm not even going to get started on how much I loved the dynamic between Levi, Boss and Savannah. Throw in Sharon and the love growing between all of these characters, including the members of the band... so sweet!

So yeah, I'll be keeping a keen eye on this author's releases because if they're anything like this one, they're going to be amazing.

Between Never and Forever by Brit Benson

The Author

Brit Benson writes real, relatable romance novels that depict epic love. She likes outspoken, independent heroines, dirty-talking, love-struck heroes, and plots that tug on every emotion.

Brit would almost always rather be reading or writing. When she’s not dreaming up her next swoony book boyfriend and fierce book bestie, she’s getting lost in someone else’s fictional world. When she’s not doing that, she’s probably marathoning a Netflix series or wandering aimlessly up and down the aisles in Homegoods, sniffing candles and touching things she’ll never buy.

Brit currently resides somewhere near the Blue Ridge Parkway with her husband, daughters, dogs, and an obscene number of books.

ARC Review: MIDNIGHT BLUE by L.J. Shen

January 16, 2018

Midnight Blue by LJ Shen
Four Continents. Three months. Two lovers. One, broken soul

It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.

Sure I am.

And then I meet her—Taryn Ayers—the music manager behind the three biggest bands in the country. She doesn’t know I’m Cam’s older brother. Or that I’ve got a secret that makes her world and mine fundamentally incompatible.
Problem is, I want to know Taryn.

But do I want her to know me?

Missing From Me by Jayne Frost
One mistake. Four years of regret. A second chance worth fighting for.

When I traded one dream for another, she was the price. My Anna. But I never forgot her. Never let go. And no amount of drumming could drown out my love for her. Her music is my head.

And when I see her again, it's so clear. Anna is mine. She'll always be mine. I just have to convince her.

Missing From Me is an epic story about second chances, redemption, undying love, and music. Because every great romance deserves a soundtrack.

Review: Hartstrings by L.L. Collins

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Standalone - Jaded Regret #3
Release: June 16, 2016
Length: 206 pages

Tanner Hart, the All-American bad boy bass guitarist of Jaded Regret, has one motto— play women’s bodies like he does the strings of his guitar— hard, in tune, and giving it his all until the show is over. The only strings he wants attached to him are the ones he plays on the stage.

He has quite the reputation, even with his own band, and he likes it that way. It keeps the truth of who he really is locked deep inside. But there's so much more to him than anyone really knows…

Now that he’s successful, he can afford to find out what really happened to the only girl who’s ever held his heart. The only thing is…will he really want to know the truth?

When Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Shepard finds herself in a situation she’s been in too many times before, she expects to do what she’s always done— cover it up, accept the apologies, and move on. She knows trying to get out is futile. What she doesn’t expect is for the world famous Tanner Hart to burst into her life like a knight in sexy armor.

When their lives collide and hearts get involved, can Tanner keep his hartstrings from being tangled up in his past, or can he make a new kind of music... with his heart?
