halloween costumes
Happy Tuesday and welcome to another TTT! This meme is hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl and this week's theme is a Halloween Freebie. I've never participated in a freebie event before and wasn't sure exactly what to do. But I've finally finished putting my blog back together and I'm feeling good so I thought I'd share the Halloween costumes that made me feel good throughout the years. Too bad I don't have pictures of myself in these costumes to share 😞. Now that would have been an awesome post!

When I was five years old, my grade 1 teacher asked us those of us who could to dress up as Alice from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. She gave us a picture for reference and I showed up wearing an Alice-like dress, a blonde wig, and my sweet Mary Janes. I remember thinking this was so cool and it's actually one of my fondest memories. Now, as an adult, I'd probably prefer to dress up as the cheshire cat or the Mad Hatter.
This one stands for numbers 2 to 5 and all of my costumes came from The Winnie the Pooh series. In grade 3, I was Winnie the Pooh. In grade 4, I was Eeyore (loved this one). In grade 5, I was piglet and in grade 7 I was Tigger. I actually won a costume contest for my Tigger costume!

In grade 9, I was Venom. The costume came with musculature padding and I used a voice distorter. It took people a while to figure out it was me!

When I was 15, I decided that I wanted to be a ghost. But not just any old ghost. It had to be a ghost with a haunting tale. A ghost borne of pain. I had to be Beloved because this character and this book was one that really spoke to me and has stuck with me to this day. My hair is naturally long and curly so I teased up some bits, added soot to a white dress, and rubbed smudges under my eyes and nose to give me the true look of madness. I had so much fun with this!

For my second year of university, I chose to be Pennywise the Dancing Clown, which I found appropriate because for that Halloween, we were having a scary movie marathon.

When my children were small, I think they were 3 and 5, I dressed us all up as Dr. Seuss characters. They were Thing 1 and Thing 2 while I was The Cat in the Hat. And yes, we were freaking adorable!

A while back, I decided to be Chiyo/Sayuri, complete with the oshiroi or white makeup depicted in Memoirs of a Geisha. I still have the beautiful red and black kimono I wore and I had a blast with this costume.

🦇🦇🦇

Have you been any of these characters for Halloween? If you've got a TTT, leave a link to it below so I can check out your post too. Happy reading!

xo, Natalie

  4. Bummer you don't have any pictures! I'm impressed that you went so all-out for Halloween. My innate laziness + my dislike for Halloween = no costumes or super lame ones when I was a kid. Ha ha.

    Happy TTT!

  6. You and I are very much alike; I love to dress up in costumes. When I was a school librarian, I had over sixty costumes in my closet. I love your ideas for costumes.

    1. That is so awesome and I am jealous! I love homemade costumes the best because you can play around with the concept and give the costume that look of individuality.
