The truth hidden in lies
I think my brain is kinda warped after reading this. I'm not saying I wasn't already one messed up individual, but with the way this twisted story held me captivated, it felt like I barely took a breath, leaving my brain suffering from lack of oxygen. I was completely absorbed by this tale and I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about it.

First of all, Hoover's writing was as brilliant as always. If it weren't for her horrid characters that I found it impossible to connect to, this would have been a perfect read. Honestly, I hated everyone in this book except for Crew. He was an absolute sweetie pie. He deserved so much more than the people he was surrounded by. I wanted someone worthy to swoop in and save him from the incredibly awful people who were raising him. But alas, it wasn't meant to be. I also came to have a ton of sympathy for Verity herself. What a misunderstood woman and my heart really went out to her and all that she lost and would continue to lose. There was just so much pain in this book!

Lowen was hateful. Her behavior was atrocious, her manners left too much to be desired, and her personality didn't exist. The thing is, I have no respect for someone who interferes in a marriage. Not only did she ingratiate herself to the husband, she assumed facts that she wasn't there to witness or observe, she built up so much negativity around the wife, that there were virtually no good options. She wasn't a heroine and she didn't deserve a happy ending. If anyone was supposed to suffer in this story, it should have been her. I couldn't scrounge up an ounce of sympathy for her character and I don't even feel bad about it.

I think everything I'm feeling is what I'm supposed to feel and I'm okay with that. So bravo, Mrs. Hoover, for completely blowing my mind!

Synopsis
Verity by Colleen Hoover
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.
