Review: A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner

January 01, 2019

A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi SteinerIt’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.

Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.

It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.

But we can’t start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

MY REVIEW

★★★☆☆

This book... holy freaking cow! There's angst and then there's ANGST. This was most definitely the latter. I fell in love and then hate and then ambivalence because the freaking drama that Breck and Jamie created was insane!!

'B' saw Jamie first, but before she could make her feelings known, he saw her best friend and the rest was history. Or was it? Because these two kept crossing the line that I was unsure when exactly their loyalty went out the window. Years and years and years go by with these two just missing each other, but that didn't stop them from dipping their toes in each other's ponds. And it was hot, let me tell you. However, they also made me uncomfortable. I guess that's what you get from these kinds of reads. This story went through the good, the bad, and the ugly and I barely held on for the ride. I wanted to scream and rage and fight and quit and I'm glad I made it to the end. Although it didn't leave me completely satisfied in the end, at least I got a bit of closure.

For my first read by Kandi Steiner, it was hard. No lie. Will I read from her again? You better believe it. I've just got to prepare myself better next time so I won't get so angry!
