ARC Review: EFFORTLESS: A LEGACY NOVEL by Bethany-Kris

January 11, 2018

Effortless by Bethany-Kris
Camilla Donati doesn’t do relationships—it’s just not her thing. She wants a fun time, not a long time. She might be exactly what Tommaso Rossi needs to make his vacation from the responsibilities as a Capo, a break worth taking.

He didn’t expect to find a woman like her with a mind full of filth.

She didn’t expect a man who would shatter all of her rules with only a grin.

Chicago keeps calling Tommaso home, and further out of reach from the one thing he wants more than ever. Camilla’s restless heart keeps getting in the way even when it’s stuck between what is, and what could be.

This should have been easy.

It didn’t have to be messy.

Falling in love is effortless.

It’s people who make it hard.

Effortless: A Legacy Novel is a standalone contemporary erotic romance.

REVIEW

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of the things I love most about Bethany-Kris, aside from the fact that she creates compelling stories with stunning and realistic characters with entertaining plot lines, is that when she says something, she means it. Although Effortless with Tommaso and Camilla is a Legacy novel, it is done in a completely different style than Cross and Catherine’s story. While there was still a bit of action (c’mon, it’s a mafia romance) it was more about these two coming into their own and finding love unexpectedly. Oh, and when she says it’s a standalone, I totally agree. However, if you’re a huge fan like I am, it’s always sweet when you get to see characters from previous books that you’re already in love with. I’m still loving all over you, Cross!!

Tom is the son of the boss of the Chicago Syndicate and Camilla is the daughter of the Donati family in New York. My baby Cross was at the center of their introduction but by no means was he a facilitator. Read the book and you’ll see what I mean ;) Tom was working as secondary capo under his uncle and he was restless, frustrated and bored. Encouraged to take a break to clear his head, he visits his good friend, Cross, in New York. A party is where he gets drawn into the trap that is Camilla. One look and it was over for this man. Unfortunately, Camilla wasn’t an easy nut to crack. She was fun and fancy free and wasn’t interested in commitment. No attachments. No emotions. One night stands were her go-tos. So what happens when her heart gets in the way?

It was incredibly easy to fall for both Tom and Cam. I adored Tom’s easy ways, his understanding, his foresight, his honor, his passion, and basically everything else that was good about him. He really was a good and decent man. He wasn’t afraid to bare his soul and for one so young, he had a great head on his shoulders. He was just finding his way in life, looking for his purpose, and this story showcased his journey to finding himself. It was a bit harder to pinpoint exactly why I loved Cam. I admired her independence, her ambitions, her confidence, and her eventual vulnerability. However, these two together were a force to be reckoned with. I enjoyed how they played off of one another. Their banter was super cute and provided a bit of lightness when compared to how down and dirty they could get. And I really loved when they got filthy ;)

When it comes to the families, I’m always envious. I come from a single parent household and would have given anything to grow up with the love that existed between these people. The mothers were all awesome, of course, but the fathers were phenomenal. I have a place in my heart for Calisto from Cross’s story and it only grew after reading this. And the way Tom and Cam interacted with their families only made me respect these characters more. I love how the author shows this side of her characters. It not only humanizes them but it makes me fall even harder for them.

Honestly, if you’ve paid any attention to the books I love, you’ll know that any book by Bethany-Kris makes the list every time. She’s a master at concocting truly amazing mafia romances that I can never get enough of. The proof is in the insane amount of her books that are on my bookshelves. They’re so pretty! If you’re a fan of love, a bit of drama, hot sex, and some intrigue, you need to add this book to your to-read list!
