Shadow Chaser by Aaron L. Speer
No victory comes without cost. For Alexandra Hensley, that cost was crippling. She has no time to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart as another test of courage looms; the nightmare no one saw coming.

The Shadow Killer is unlike anything Alex has encountered.
As vampire allies join the hunt for him, she realises the paranormal is no longer being hidden. The secret is out and spilling onto the streets.

When it seems they are closing in on the killer, his true intent is discovered.

There is a way to defeat him. There is always a way. But there is always a price. Time is running out and the choice must be made. What would you give up to save the person you love the most?

MY REVIEW

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you’ve been following my journey of discovery into the Speer-verse, you’ll know how much I fell in love with it in book one, Night Walker. My love for this series has only grown with each additional book. However, before I continue to extol the virtues of this author, the awesome world he keeps dumping me into, and the incredible characters he created, I have to air my one grievance. Yup, you read that right. I only had one issue and if I don’t get it off my chest right now, I’m gonna explode.

Ok… here goes… mildly spoilery (it’s a word)...

I need the scenario between Alex, Dante and Michelle to end. NOW!! To say I wasn’t thrilled with where this part of the story was going would be an understatement. I finally got Dante and Alex to admit their feelings for one another. FINALLY!! And yeah, a freaking demon was wreaking havoc and matters became life or death for all of Australia, but did Michelle have to literally infuse herself into the situation? Why??? Why couldn’t she be the better person, as much as Dante and Alex always were, and just be happy for them? Why did Alex have to confuse the issue? Okay, I get it wasn’t really her but the demon, but c’mon!! Couldn’t Michelle figure out that what happened wasn’t normal? She herself said something was wrong with Alex! And Dante… how dare he imagine a future with both women when just a few scenes ago, he admitted that his feelings for Alex were the first of that depth he’s felt in a long time. Meaning… he didn’t feel that way for Michelle! So why is this happening??? Please… Aaron… for the love of all things otherworldly… please don’t do this to me in book four. Please!! All this did was disconnect me from them and leave a bad taste in my mouth.

In other news…

Mrs. Pam Nelson, in her review of this book (found HERE), mentions her new favorite vamp of the series - Lee Nightingale. And I can see why. Not only was he gorgeous, arrogant, and apparently the strongest vampire around, he was also someone not afraid to be who he is with absolutely no apologies. In my opinion, he had every right to be arrogant and I couldn’t help falling for him too. I can’t wait to see more of this man!

I loved every scene with Talia and Alicia. It was immediately evident that Alicia gave Talia the maternal comfort and affection that was missing from her own mother. It was obvious that her mother had an agenda that didn’t line up with hers. Was it only me who found that despite not being raised along with Nick, she was very much like him? I’m so excited to see how that reunion will go.

I didn’t have much love for Nicole in the previous book, but I came to like her in this one. I liked her fierce devotion to Nick and how protective she was towards the life they created together. As this new life creates its own substory, I’m increasingly interested in finding out how this will all play out.

The demon though??? This demon had me rolling!!! I laughed so freaking hard. The things that it said. The way it acted. Dayum!! I loved how the author illustrated the pull on Alex and the ferocity of her fight against evil. These scenes were intense, painful and highlighted all that was amazing about Alex and this author’s imagination.

Honestly, there was so much going on that I couldn’t help being captivated by this story. There was tons of action, tons of gore, tons of love, and tons of drama.

So yeah, that’s about all I have to say. This series is incredible. This story is phenomenal. If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, you NEED to get on this. If you haven’t started this series, I’m telling you right now… YOU’RE MISSING OUT!!

  3. I'm dying here. DYING. LMAO. And yes, I, too, had an issue with the triangle that seemed to be forming. I'm gonna say no comment on Lee atm cause you both know book 6 releases at the end of the month...
