You’re the Halligan...

Kettle had it all. Until he didn't.
He lost it all in a moment. One heart stopping, soul shattering moment, and there wasn't a single thing he could do about it.
From that day forward, he stayed away from relationships.
Then he responded to a possible fire and there she was, rocking his world when he didn't want it to be rocked.

To My...

Adeline was just a schoolteacher. She lived a boring life.
Until she stole something.
And it didn't have anything to do with the sexy firefighter’s heart.
Oh, she stole that, too, even if he didn't want it to be stolen.

Axe...

Kettle didn't realize just what kind of trouble Adeline was in until it nearly ripped her from his life.
There was no way anything was taking that away from him.
Not again.
One man was about to see up close and personal what fury looked like on the face of The Dixie Wardens MC’s enforcer.

Adeline was awesome! She was a unique kind of person, covered in tattoos, rescued animals, a high school science teacher, and had a huge heart. She was a terrific human being and a great sister. Her twin, Viddy, is someone I can't wait to meet. She's blind due to an accident the crazy twins were in when they were teenagers and I enjoyed watching what was developing between her and Trance. And when these sisters were together... magic!

Kettle was amazeballs! He was an amazing friend and brother and I was kind of surprised by how much depth there was to his character. I wish there was an actual discussion about the illness he suffered as a child and all that he had lost in his life, but I'm guessing what I want wouldn't have really pushed the story where it needed to go.

I will say that this was probably the most painful book I've read from LLV ever. It packed a whole lot of punch and yet it gave plenty of heartwarming moments and humor as well. It had a great balance and for all that it forced me to feel, it's more than worthy of all the stars!

Tiago/Kettle & Adeline family tree:

    Their children
Saylor Rae Spada - Sinners Are Winners

    Kettle's family
        Shannon Spada (sister)

    Adeline's family
Vidalia "Viddy" Sheffield (twin sister) - Kevlar to My Vest
        Jefferson Samuel Sheffield (brother)

Some secrets should remain buried...

In Sydney, Gavin has used Sovereign's resources to secure what he believes could be the ultimate weapon. But not everyone in the organisation has faith in his plan and a secondary option is deployed. One that might destroy more than vampire kind.

In England, the fall of Tynan Ross has unearthed an enemy the Slades never saw coming. One far more personal, and perhaps more deadly, than even that mad tyrant. It will take more than Alicia has ever had to give to overcome the threat, and the price of victory might be too much to ask.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Aaron L. Speer is an author you need to be watching!

This story was brilliant! So brilliant in fact that I'm having trouble putting my explosive thoughts together to write a review. My brain is still trying to wrap itself around all that happened.

You know what doesn't help? The fact that I'm still grieving the loss of Dante, which I felt through every part of this story, no matter how much I tried to hide and deny it.

Aaron gave us a treat with this book, aside with a missing character. I got the chance to check in with those I've come to love and those I'm really starting to hate. And I went through some serious emotions, especially when it came to my red-eyed baby love. Why people wanna give my Lee such a hard time? So what if he's a homicidal psychopath with the humor of frat boy? He's hot, he's strong, he's MINE!!

I want Alicia to take several seats for many different reasons, which I'll get to.

So let's get to the check-ins:
Sovereign - these mofos are working on two different ways to take out all vamps. I really hope they fail (obviously) and I want the kitsune to kill them all!
Melina - so lost without Dante, feeling bad about being the one to take him out, and kinda desperate to figure out her place in her new reality. She still bothered me because Dante wasn't even hers in the end.
Michelle - also lost but I found I didn't care. I hope she gets so lost that she can't be found. ✦ Alex - oh, she's lost too. She has to find her new purpose, understand her powers, and a new threat seems to be on the horizon. I hope she learns quick.
Matt - looks like hunter life isn't all it's cracked up to be. Why is he virtually homeless?
Clive and Lauren - still together and still hilarious, although their story has changed in a huge way and I'm wondering if Clive will get the chance to tell her. How will they navigate their new dynamic?
Nick - other than Lee, he's my boobear! He's still a sweetheart and he really struggled in this book. He's an Alpha who put his mother in charge and she treats him with kid gloves, all in an attempt to keep him safe. Like he's not the true Alpha or something. He's tenth gen. He should be the one doing the protecting. With the Connolly problem, I have no clue which way his story is going to turn. How will everything effect him, Nicole and their son? I must say... Nicole did absolutely nothing for me.
Alicia - I think saying she frustrated me is the more tactful approach. She was as arrogant as ever. I was surprised and yet unsurprised by many of her actions and words. I'm interested to see what will happen to the relationship between her and Talia. Will they cement their mother/daughter bond? And will Alicia finally let Lee in?
Haruto - I was surprised to see this guy still kicking around, holding onto his love for the kitsune.
Lee Nightingale - seriously, what I can I say about this guy? I love him. I don't care how much gore and horror Aaron attaches to this man's actions... he just really does it for me. I still don't know anything about him. I don't know when I'll ever really learn about him, but I'm going to keep reading for every glimpse I'm lucky to have. I'm wondering why the non-violence spell didn't work on him, where he comes from, how was he created, and why is he virtually invincible?
✦ Oh and let me not forget to mention the awkward conversation between Alex and Michelle about the night that shall not be mentioned. YUCK!!

I'm really hoping my following points don't spoil this for anyone. I'll try to keep it as vague as possible, but I'm left with so many questions and I need to get them out there.
✮ I know that Dante never slept with Michelle. At least that's what I've been led to believe up until now. It was explained that although she was his blood donor and she wanted sexual intimacy with him, he never took that step with her. That's why I was so upset with his vision of the future with Alex including Michelle. It was completely out of left field. So why, in this book, is it being intimated that there was a sexual relationship between them?
✮ What the heck is going on with this Kane guy? Did biting Alex give him some of her power? Is he now strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Lee? This dude needs to be put down!
✮ OMG, what is Solomon thinking? Let's stop being a cop and go work for the bad guys at Sovereign? I get it. He wants answers and I'm sure this will lead to something in the future story to be told, but I'm pissed!
✮ With Kane forcing Clive to work for him, I can't even begin to imagine where this part of the story is going. With everyone treating my sweet honey Lee like a monster, even after he saved EVERYBODY, all I'm saying is this... HE BETTER NOT DIE!!

I'm desperately looking forward to the next instalment of this story!

Clive crossed the street, hurrying to avoid traffic. Thursday was shopping night, no matter where he found himself. He only had to cook for himself, though. His girlfriend, if he could call her that, only ate one thing. Thankfully, he had all the supply she needed.
That didn’t stop him from cursing himself as he hurried to get to the supermarket, fifteen minutes before they closed. His time management sucked lately.
Passing an alleyway, he heard the sounds of a bottle breaking, muffled screams and scurrying feet. To the untrained ear, those noises might not even register. And they might be nothing. But, as someone who had served the undead for as long as he had, Clive looked into the almost pitch-black space, immediately alert. If he went on his merry way—and they were as he suspected: bait—an unsuspecting, kind-hearted person could wind up dinner.
Clive walked into the alley as he drew a serrated knife from his side sheath and pulled out his phone to shine a light ahead. He had no doubt that whoever had made the noise to draw him in had no problem seeing in the dark, so he wasn’t giving his position away.
That knowledge didn’t slow his heart rate, though, which he could feel thumping in his head.
A slight crunch behind him saw Clive whirling around to shine the torch left and right. He knew someone was there. Watching him. Hunting him. But he couldn’t see anything.
The chill of fear crept up his spine as he felt a presence close in, circling him. He forced himself to loosen his grip on the knife, sure that if he held it any tighter his palm would begin to bleed.
Keep calm... keep calm, he told himself. He turned the blade in his hand, faced it up towards his elbow, swallowed and lunged forward.
His arm was caught.
A hand he couldn’t see gripped him by the throat and lifted him, slamming him into a nearby garage door. Before he could utter a sound, the vampire had pressed into his body and its fangs had pierced his throat. It drank quickly, taking two gulps in mere seconds.
Clive tried to fight, but he was at fate’s mercy. Death’s door. Whatever you called it.
The vampire held him in place with one hand as the second snaked down to his groin and ripped his zipper open, almost tearing it, then gripped his cock with a power that both frightened and excited him.
He was so hard that the act of freeing his cock from behind his pants saved him pain.
The vampire let go of him, leaning back and moaning at the taste of him. “A knife... really?”
Clive was breathless as he replied, “Vampire hunter. I thought it would be cool. Just... trying to play the part.”
“Lackey, you’re so weird,” Lauren whispered, pressing herself into him again, this time using her mouth on his. “I’ve bitten you... what are you going to do? Just let me get away with it?” she taunted.
Tasting his own blood fuelled an adrenaline charge that had him hiking her short skirt up, his hands cupping her arse and kneading her as he kissed her harder.
Clive lifted her as he turned and pushed her into the same garage door she had thrown him against, then lifted one of her legs and held it at his waist.
“Oh please, mister hunter, don’t hurt me—” She stopped speaking suddenly when Clive pressed the head of his cock directly against her clit, thrusting inwards. She looked at him, mouth slightly open, the blood still wet on her face. “Well, this just got a hell of a lot more interesting. Thought you weren’t ready for sex?”
“I’m not. But you’re still going to cum. Now, shut up,” Clive growled, gripping Lauren by the hair and leaning her head to the side so he could kiss her again. Deeper. Feeling the vibrations caused by her soft moans as he continued to jerk his hips back and forth, he let go of her leg to hold his cock in place.
Lauren began to move with him, wrapping her arms around him as she moved her lips to his neck again. This time she didn’t bite him. She offered tiny kisses, licks and nibbles over the goosebumps that were present.
“Don’t stop...” he pleaded as she held him.
He felt her knees shaking from the constant back and forth pressure on her clit, felt her come, then felt the slickness on her upper thighs. It wasn’t long before his own pleasure also ran down her legs, and slumping into her, he buried his face in her chest as his breathing calmed.
“Good boy,” she sighed, patting his hair. “Lie down with me.”
“What, here?” he asked, indicating the alley.
“Yes, here. It’s cool and it’s dark. Don’t worry,” she said, giving him a soft kiss on the lips. “I’ll protect you.”
“I suppose I did take you to a graveyard on our first date,” Clive admitted, lying down next to Lauren.
“I knew it!” Lauren said, her head on Clive’s chest after biting her fingertip and gently wiping it along the bite marks she had left on him, healing them with her own blood. “You totally thought that was a date. You were so into me.”
“And, as luck would have it, we were interrupted by a ghoul clawing its way out of its own grave. Which we then killed.”
“I killed, thank you very much.”
“I helped.”
“You got a hard-on when spooning me on the ground.”
Clive shrugged. “You... have a really soft arse.”

Bjorn Cursed by N.J. Walters

Bjorn Cursed by N.J. Walters

She was magnificent with her long, dark blond hair falling to her waist. She had several smaller braids in front, but the bulk of it was free of confinement. Her eyes were the dark blue of the water on a stormy day. Her lips were full, nose narrow, and cheekbones high. Her chin was tilted up.
His heart stuttered, and he blinked, unable to believe what he was seeing — it was the face that filled his dreams.

Lucifer is up to his old tricks, causing problems for the Forgotten Brotherhood. This time, he’s had a woman removed from the Norse afterlife and placed her right in the path of Bjorn Knutson. After the slaughter of his wife and family centuries ago, tortured and broken, Bjorn was cursed as the first Norse werewolf. Now he’s been tasked by Odin himself with killing the woman who escaped. Failure is not an option.

Before he can track her, he stumbles across a woman being accosted by three men in the middle of the night. Even though she’s human, he intervenes and is shocked to recognize the face of the one woman he could never kill — his wife Anja.

She’s also the one he’s hunting…and if he doesn’t kill her then both their lives are at stake.

After learning a bit about Bjorn's past through the crumbs left in the last book, I needed to know the whole story about this gorgeous Viking. Knowing that over a thousand years ago he had tragically lost his wife and children... leaving him broken, miserable and alone... how did he make it through?

As Odin's creation, when called upon, Bjorn must answer and obey. So when he's told that a soul has escaped the afterlife and returned to Earth, that he's being tasked with finding and killing her, he thinks nothing of it. However, when he finally comes face-to-face with his target... he sees the face of his beloved wife. He quickly realizes that he's willing to defy the gods to keep her safe.

This story was exactly what I needed. Bjorn got the best kind of ending, one I couldn't even imagine. Without giving anything away, he got his answers, he and Anja were reunited, the gods and Lucifer were as ridiculous as ever, and The Forgotten Brotherhood have never been stronger. They're even two members richer! I love this team so much and I'm hoping that this isn't the last that I'll see of them.

I need books for Sven and Death! Seriously, doesn't Death give you goosebumps in the best of ways? And Sven... he has to learn to live again. He has to find a way to make real connections, especially with his parents. Maybe he'll officially join The Brotherhood. Find love. I'm not asking for too much. I sense a beautiful story there.

“Bjorn—”

“Can we discuss this later? We have company.”

He’d always had a sixth sense about such things. It was one of the reasons he’d been such a fierce warrior. “Where?”

“Two behind and at least one ahead.” Bjorn jerked his head to the left. “Across the street.”

She didn’t need him to point out which man he meant. Over six feet tall, he wore jeans, boots, and a leather jacket. He looked similar to the ones who’d accosted them earlier. “Do they all look alike?” she muttered. “Is it a requirement or something?”

Bjorn’s fingers tightened around hers, but he was smiling, his lips tilted up slightly, his eyes filled with laughter. He hadn’t forgotten for one second they were being stalked and hunted, but he’d always been good at living in the moment. It’s how they’d been raised, as much a part of them as their physical appearance.

Laugh when you could, cry when you needed, revel in the joys of life, fight for honor and glory, and die well.

“What can I do?” She would fight alongside her man, no matter what they faced.

“Stay close. When I tell you to run, you run.”

“Where are we going?” It bothered her that she had no idea where they were or where they were headed.

“My truck isn’t much farther. About four blocks up the road. When we get there, turn right. It’s the black one.” He rattled off some letters and numbers. “Crap, can you even read them?”

“Yes. I have some knowledge of this world. Not everything, but I understand much, including how to read the language.”

“Good. The truck will have a piece of metal on the back with those on it. Here are the keys.” He reached into his pocket and pulled them out. “Hit this button when you’re close.” He showed her which one. “That will unlock the doors. Get in, hit this other button, and wait for me. I’ll be right behind you.”

“Got it.” She gripped the keys and had her thumb near the button he’d showed her. Her heart was racing as they kept a fast steady gait. She wanted to run, but that was the wrong thing to do. Any animal would take that as a challenge, see her as prey and sprint after her. And these men were essentially animals in human flesh.

Werewolves? They were the stuff of myth and legend but, like the gods, were real. Their kind never came to Freya’s Hall. Odin was rumoured to have all sorts of beasts in Valhalla, but she’d never seen proof, as she’d been unable to leave. That had been part of her pledge to the goddess, which is what made her being here all the worse.

Her vow had been broken.

“Another one just ahead.”

“Should we detour?” She pulled her attention back to the present situation. Her immediate goal—protect her husband.

“That’s what they want. They’re trying to herd us down that street, which means there are likely more of them. We go straight. They’ll do nothing until we make the turn onto the quieter street. As soon as we do, you run. I’ll hold them off and be right behind you.”

“I won’t leave you.”

“I know.” He dropped a quick kiss on her mouth. It was over far too soon. She licked her lips, wanting to savor his taste. It was familiar yet strangely new. Maybe because of all the years they’d missed. They were both different people than they’d been when they’d wed and started a family, shaped by their experiences. But one thing hadn’t changed. He was still a hunger in her blood.

He groaned. “Stop looking at me like that, woman. Now is not the time.”

She knew he was trying to lighten her spirits. Tension radiated from his big frame. He squeezed her hand. “Get ready, Anja. It’s just there on your right.” He kept his voice low. “As soon as we reach the corner, run hard and fast, and don’t look back.”

Once upon a time N.J. had the idea that she would like to quit her job at the bookstore, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown, and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the bookstore and her hometown and settled in for another seven years.

One day she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel and life would never be the same. N.J. has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.

I didn't think it was possible to fall more in love with this couple, but I did. Gah, their story is incredibly beautiful!

They're married. As king and queen, they are an unstoppable force. No matter what is thrown at them, they seem to come out stronger. Bad politics, death, family drama, not even bullets can stop them. Their love, their beauty, and their grace made their story such a joy to read.

I even loved getting inside the heads of the secondary characters: Wolfgang and his endless optimism; Iskander and his stoicism even in the face of hilarity; and Wilhelmina was too funny for words! I still want to know what ended up happening to Augusta. That girl did a disgusting 180 and her karma should be harsh!

I leaned over, taking the ties off his eyes. He blinked as he looked around the retro van I had customized. He glanced at the array of all his favorite treats beside him, then the pictures of us and love notes I'd glued to the ceiling among the twinkling lights. Then back toward the front of the car, where a large screen was before us. Slowly a smile spread across his face. "A drive-in movie?"
"My informant told me you've always wanted to do one of these. I've picked all the classic movie food: Twizzlers, popcorn, a few of your favorite, and..." I got up slightly and moved to the back to pull out a small crockpot, lifting the lid for him to see. His eyes lit up.
"Cherumoran Kosowens?" He grinned.
"It's super hard to make well, but I waited until I had perfected it and got a seal of approval."
He looked up at me, surprised. "You made this?"
"All the food tonight, besides the candy, was made by yours truly," I said. He stared at everything all over again. "Do you like it? I didn't wnat to make it too girlie —"
"This is amazing." He reached up and touched one of the notes I'd written. "Wow. I'm very touched right now."
Thank God.
"Dear Gale —"
"Don't read it out loud!" I gasped, and he glanced down at me.
"Why?"
"Because it's... it's embarrassing?"
His eyebrow rose. "Your love is embarrassing?"
"I only want to do one super embarrassing thing right now."
"And that is?"
I made a face before I grabbed the guitar.
"You wrote me a love song?" He gasped, grinning wide.
"Stop looking at me like that! You are going to make me mess up." I bit my lip while sitting in place before him. "I tried doing the whole love letters thing. I didn't feel like they were as good as yours, so I decided to switch back to what I'm good at — music."
"Now I'm very excited," he mused, leaning back on the pillow to watch.
I rolled my eyes and focused on my fingers. "I'm not as good with this as the piano —"
"Encore!" he called out, pumping his fist in the air.
"I haven't even played yet!"
"Doesn't matter. I'm in love and I'm going to want more," he said.
Oh God... focus.
Trying to ignore him, I began to play, singing the first verse, "Before I met you I never knew, how bright the stars shine at night, I never knew how sunshine made every morning all right, how beautiful the world is when I wake up, and you are the very first thing in my sight..."
The thing about music for me was that once I got started... once I was into it... everything faded away and I could just melt into it. The song, the sound of the music... it felt like swimming in the current of memories... and all the memories of this song was of him. From the first time, I saw him, to us laughing together, teasing each other. It hadn't even been two whole years, and yet everything felt like... magic.
"Loving you is like magic, Gale —" Before I could finish the words, his lips were on mine, his hand cupping my face.
When we separated, he rested his forehead on mine, his eyes glazed over with lust. "I don't think I can handle much more right now... I want you too badly. Can I have you?"
"You already do," I replied, kissing him again.

In her words:

So I’m a writer (duh that’s how you found me), movie enthusiast, and self-proclaimed chef. I love music even though I can’t sing or dance to save my life. (That doesn’t necessarily stop me but you’ve been warned.)

I started Ruthless People the summer of 2013 in hopes of giving myself a new type of love and crime drama. I never knew so many people thought like me! I feel truly blessed to have fans like you all! Writing is my true love and having you all enjoy my words is a dream come true.

After getting that cliffhanger in the first book, I couldn't wait to get part two in my hands. Now here I am at the end of this book and I. Am. SWOONING!!

Gale and Odette gave me everything I thought I needed and so much more...
๐Ÿ‘‘ connection - even though, in the beginning, they were apart and Odette had doubts about where they stood, once they were in the same room, their spark was back! It was magical. They fell together as if no time had passed. Their love was so beautiful.
๐Ÿ‘‘ drama - why was every bit of their angst and contention either adorable or hilarious?
๐Ÿ‘‘ ease - weird right? They were navigating the monarchy, trying to find a way to be themselves and stay united, and there was such an easiness between them. It translated in a way that made me truly believe in their forever.
๐Ÿ‘‘ authenticity - in ways that were so simple. It was so easy to relate to Odette's hair care regimen. Yup, I too wear a tie-head to bed!

While there was a bit of mayhem mixed in with their magic, I had no worries when it came to Gale and Odette. I fell in love with them. I fell in love with their story. And I know I'm going to fall in love with whatever comes next for them. I've already got their extended story downloaded and I can't wait to read it!!

Doin' A Dime by Lani Lynn Vale

I'd never, not ever, thought I would have a thing for a felon.
But there I was, lusting after the man.

Live-in property & pet caretaker needed. Six-year minimum. Background check required. Generous compensation. Marriage of convenience required.

The moment that Wyett Villin read the ad on her local community’s page, she knew that it would be perfect. It didn’t matter how big the house was, what kinds of animals she had to take care of, or what the compensation was. She didn’t give a flip as long as it got her out of her childhood home and away from the person that she despised the most.

Only, she had no clue that by accepting the position, she would be agreeing to watch over the mini-mansion and two large dogs of Hunt McJimpsey, computer hacker extraordinaire, sexy nerd, and convicted felon of Souls Chapel, Texas.

She’d meant to make her life easier, not complicate it more.

***

Hunt McJimpsey was careful. He knew exactly what he was doing and practically planned every single step that he took to make sure that he always had his tracks covered.

But one single mistake costs him five years of his life, and if he’s going to go down for the crime, he might as well make it spectacular.

Three years into his prison sentence, he’s a changed man, and definitely not for the better.

He’s harder, angrier, and even more brilliant and conniving than before he went in.

He thinks that by keeping up with his dogs’ babysitter, his property caretaker, and reluctant wife, that he’s only doing his due diligence as a responsible person. Only, what starts out as curiosity for his property turns into genuine like for the woman that is caring for what means the most to him.

When an opportunity to get out of the hellhole known as prison arises and the only thing he has to do is join a motorcycle club and sign some of his free time away to help those less fortunate, he jumps at the chance.

Not only because he’s ready to get the hell out of prison, but because he’s ready to meet the woman that he’s been falling for, one visit a week, for the last three years.

Doin' A Dime by Lani Lynn Vale

I can't pick just one thing that really worked for me when it came to Doin' a Dime, but I know that I ended up feeling that this story was utter perfection!

Hunt McJimpsey was the perfect combination of alpha, sexy, nerdy, compassionate man. Wyett Villin was his soulmate in every sense. She had a huge heart. She was a survivor. She was sweet and beautiful. And their chemistry was intense.

Hunt may have been a felon, but in my opinion, at least when it comes to fictional males (can't be saying this and be a representative of the criminal justice system), he went to prison for all of the right reasons. A hacker extraordinaire, he was one of the good guys. Now that he works for Lynn, he's even more so.

Again, I fell in love with LLV's words and without giving away the plot, I hope I've convinced you to fall in love with these characters too. If you love love, romance and all the feels, this story is definitely the one for you!

It’s time to meet my destiny.

Kymaris has everything she needs to bring down the veil between Earth and the Underworld. If she’s successful in completing the ritual, Earth will be darkened by evil. Demons will swarm our lands and the human race will be decimated.

It’s up to me to stop her.

My fate is to thwart the prophecy, but I’m not sure what to do. While I may have some gifts, I am still merely a human facing the queen of the Dark Fae who holds unimaginable power.

But I have something she doesn’t. Something she could never comprehend.

I have love.

Deep, abiding love which gives me the strength and courage to face down evil. Family, friends, and unexpected allies, who will stand shoulder to shoulder with me against this enemy. Should I fail, they are prepared to go down with me, but only after we have given our all.

My sacrifice may destroy everything I am. Fate may require my demise. But if that happens, I will leave this realm without regret, knowing that I have loved and been loved in return.

The Rise of Fortune and Fury by Sawyer Bennett

And that is how you end a saga, ladies and gentlemen!!

I know that this isn't really a fantasy romance series, but I have to tell you this... I lived for Carrick and Finley. Their epic love made every hardship, every loss, every twist, and every obstacle extremely worthwhile.

After the huge betrayal revealed at the end of the last book, I had no idea where this story was going to go. With Kymaris gaining so much, having everything she needed to begin the destruction of Earth as we know it, what could the 'Scooby gang' possibly do to stop her? Granted, I never had a doubt that our team would win. I had a strong feeling that I was destined to get a happy ending (which I did), but I also knew that I wouldn't be getting there the easy way.

I'm remembering how much I couldn't stand Finley at the beginning of this series. How she rubbed me the wrong way, got on my nerves, and had me thinking I couldn't care less what happened to her. Look at me now! I'm so proud of the development of this character. She could still be annoying (I'm not gonna lie), but she became such a fierce, smart, and easy to cheer for heroine and I was completely invested in her stake in the war against evil.

If you haven't started this series, start now!

"Life is so fragile," he murmurs gently. "No stronger than glass. And it seems from the moment I met you in this lifetime, that was something you inherently accepted. You lost your parents, and you understood how fleeting it all is. The strength you've shown these last few months, especially after leanring about this sacrifice you'll have to bear, is greater than some of history's bravest warriors. Time and time again, you've acknowledged that fate will not take a backseat, and you've faced it head-on with not only brute confidence, but also with a graciousness that comes from the beauty of your heart. It's because your heart is so fucking big and loves so goddamned generously that you've been marching forward to greet your destiny without ever taking a moment to be scared. And now... you're taking it, and I'm here for it. I'm here to shoulder the burden with you. I'll take on all of your worries, pain, and fear if you'll let me. I will continually remind you that you brought a demi-god to his knees time and time again, and you are more magnificent than all the gods put together. It's with that knowledge I know I'll have to let you go until I find that shining star again. Until then, I hope it's enough that I will be by your side every step of the way. And if the fates are kind to us, hopefully I'll be holding you as you leave this world to wait for me in the next."

A love controlled by guilt, contained by rules… One summer will change everything.
No kissing.

No cuddling.

No blah, blah, blah.

He wrote the rules onto our skin—every ink stroke tragically smeared by the lines we’d crossed.

He claimed it was the only way we could be together—the only way we wouldn’t destroy our families.

But there was an exception to his rules—one he never saw coming.

All I needed was opportunity and a sunburn.

The girl who played by his rules is gone.

This girl… is not his “friend.”

Rebellious by Kristy Marie
Oh, the sweet, sweet agony of angst! Rebellious is the love story of Aspen Von Bremen and Bennett Jameson and it pulls on those heart muscles like a beast! Throughout this book, I kept thinking of that quote from Tennyson: 'Tis better to have loved and lost, / Than never to have loved at all. Except for the most part, their love was a huge secret (although not really a secret to ANYONE) and we spent the majority of the book wondering 'will they or won't they?'

Fine. We knew they would and that it was a matter of when, but they worked that when like a stripper on a pole — smooth and tantalizing. Obviously I'm talking about a talented stripper.

So here's the deal... Aspen has loved Bennett since she was two years old and was handed his newborn body to hold. He's loved her just as long. But Bennett's an honorable guy. He's a guy that cares about his family, ALL of his family, and he doesn't want anything to mess up what they have going. So being Aspen's bestie will have to be enough. Almost kisses and slightly inappropriate touching aside, they've kept things platonic (if you don't count certain things that they do that you will discover when you read the book), but Aspen's graduated and she's going to be leaving. Bennett's lifeline will soon be out of reach. When he finally caves to give them one summer of loving each other without rules... That's when things really start to get interesting... and messy.
For years, I've made decisions that hurt Aspen repeatedly. And every day she shows up with a smile and a bigger attitude than the day before. She never allows my shit to stop her.
I don't want to be the guy she remembers as causing her pain.
Because that's all we'll have after this summer.
A memory.
Or a nightmare — if I allow a woman like Aspen to walk away.
She's crazy.
Funny.
Beautiful.
And... lyal, even when she shouldn't be.
While I'm not a big fan of new adult romances, Kristy Marie has this special way of writing them that draws me in and keeps me engaged. There's none of the usual whining or unnecessary drama. It's just straight heart, humor and feels.

I loved how she displayed the dynamic between Aspen and Bennett. He was the brooding, unapproachable hero who had a soft spot for his girl. She was the one constantly trying to break all of his rules and draw out the amazing guy she knew he was. She was trouble and he was trying to keep them out of it. She was temptation and he tried his best to resist. In the end, they were perfect for each other and no one who reads this story can deny that.

Some of my Favorite Quotes

"Von Bremens don't run away from our problems. We ignore them." - Theo

This is us: raw, desperate, and madly in love. - Aspen

"Aspen Von Bremen. You loved me before I could even pronounce your name. I took my first steps into your arms. Will you do me the honor of taking your last steps as a Von Bremen into mine?" - Bennett

Rebellious by Kristy Marie
A self-proclaimed reader enthusiast, Kristy started her writing journey back in 2009, reading and writing when her daughter was napping. Establishing her place in Corporate America (because something had to pay the bills), writing became her dirty, late-night secret.

After eight long years, she released her debut novel, Commander in Briefs. It was a long road, but she can honestly say, the road less traveled had the most beautiful sights.

The only thing Kristy Marie loves as much as reading and writing is sports! Especially those that require muscles and a nice ass. Her favorite is, and always will be, baseball. She's such a fan, that she even married her small town's high school's centerfielder where they still live with their three badass kids.

Commander in Briefs is her first series but definitely not her last.
