The Wolf by Jade Marshall
Being hurt and alone is nothing new to Hadley. She's survived on her own for as long as she can remember, and no one will dictate the way she lives her life. With loss and pain dominating her memories, how can she put her faith in someone again?

Having no one to depend on besides his club has hardened Brandon to the outside world—and it's exactly how he prefers it. The moment he lets people get close they always find a way to backstab him. There's no room for love in his world.

Hadley and Brandon need a reason to let their walls down and let love in. Can two broken souls find a way to save each other?

Hadley grew up in an MC club with a loving family. Everything changed when her father was killed. Her brother ended up in the life, her mother was turned out, and she was next. When protecting her gets her brother killed too, she takes off, trying to make her way in a world that only knows how to hurt her. Hadley was working a dead-end job and living somewhat of a dead-end life. Her hopes and aspirations weren't far-fetched, but getting there was proving to be a problem. Being surrounded by members of two MC clubs was only driving up her fear and anxiety, however, when her best friend convinces her that the members of the Gypsy Bastards MC are actually good guys, she gives them a chance, which gives Wolf the perfect opening.

Wolf had lost everything he had ever loved and the club was all he had left. He took his role as enforcer seriously and beat himself up whenever someone got hurt on his watch. Since the death of his wife and child, he hasn't been able to connect or feel for anyone. No hookups for this guy. Then he sees Hadley and he can't seem to look away. For the first time in years, he's aroused by just a glance. Her smart mouth both frustrates and excites him. She's a challenge he can't pass up. And when her life continues to be in danger, he does everything he can to keep her safe.

I really enjoyed this book! It was pretty fast-paced and I was able to read it in a little over an hour. Yup, I was riveted to the pages. Three stars doesn't mean I didn't have love for this story, it just means it wasn't perfect for me. I wanted more out of these characters. While knowing about Wolf's trauma, it gets casual mentions and it's never discussed with Hadley, at least not on page. As for Hadley, she came off as too abrasive, too rash, too immature and unappreciative, and it took far too long (the end) for her to grow out of it. I wanted to see more time with these characters as a couple so that I could feel and become invested in their happy ending. Other than these issues, I was entertained and I will most definitely be looking forward to what this author comes up with next!
