ARC Review: BLOCK SHOT by Kennedy Ryan

Block Shot by Kennedy Ryan
A STANDALONE second chance, enemies-to-lovers romance set in the cutthroat world of sports management.

They're two sharks in a fish tank . . .

JARED
If I had a dollar for every time Banner Morales made my heart skip a beat...
The heart everyone assumes is frozen over.
Her anger is...arousing.
Every glare from those fire-spitting eyes, every time she grits her teeth, gets me...well, you know.
If I had a dollar for every time she's put me in my place, I'd be an even richer man.
I'm a successful sports agent because I assume "no" means you'll think about it.
I'm sure what you meant to say is "Coming right up.”
They say even rich men don't always get what they want, but those men don't know how to play the game. The trick is to keep them guessing.
Take Banner. She assumes she's winning, but this game?
She doesn't even know how to play.

BANNER
If I had a dollar for every time Jared Foster broke my heart, I’d have exactly one dollar.
One night. One epic fail. One dollar...and I'm out.
I've moved on.
I’ve found success in a field ruled by men.
Anything they can do, I have done better.
They can keep the field while I call the shots, blocking them when I have to.
And Jared has the nerve to think he gets a second chance?
Boy, please. Go sit down. Have several seats.
I'll just be over here ignoring the man carved from my fantasies with a lust-tipped chisel.
Oh, I didn't say the struggle wasn't real.
But I've got that one dollar, and Jared won't have me.

MY REVIEW

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I swear, I can never go wrong whenever I get the chance to read a Kennedy Ryan story. I loved almost everything there was to love about Banner and Jared! They first met in college, two great minds working to achieve the same degree. They were both working hard towards a career as sports agents, a field that Jared saw as "survival of the fittest" and which Banner hoped to retain her humanity. Their attraction was real, but unrequited. Until one night when Jared realized he might lose his chance and grabbed it, only for a misunderstanding to turn the best night of their lives into their worst nightmare.

Fast forward some years and they're both successful agents for rival firms and their story reads more like an enemies-to-lovers romance than anything else. But it would be obvious to anyone that beneath all of the so-called hate from Banner was so much emotion and desire for the one man she should avoid. The one man who truly owned her. And Jared wasn't willing to let her go again without a fight.

Jared and Banner were so amazing together and I think their inherent differences made their relationship more one of passion and forever than one of complacency. Jared didn't like much people and to watch his love for Banner blossom and bloom was at once hilarious and swoon-worthy. He was just the type of hero to sway my heart, right from the start. Banner was a very sympathetic character with such a huge heart and the loyalty of a fierce warrior. Her weight issues became a bit redundant and without spoiling the story, I wasn't a fan of some of her choices, but her otherwise awesome character outshined all of that.

I also loved getting the chance to see other characters in a certain light, especially since I haven't read Long Shot yet. You better believe I'll be getting on that ASAP. I enjoyed the heck out of this story, which read like a movie I'd definitely want to see, and can't wait to see if Zo will get a happy ending too!
