“Either one of you kill him, or I will.”
Shade, Wraith and Kynan raised their hands to volunteer.
How special.
Brotherly love ran like syrup in the room.

A DEMON ENSLAVED
Lore is a Seminus half-breed demon who has been forced to act as his dark master's assassin. Now to earn his freedom and save his sister's life, he must complete one last kill. Powerful and ruthless, he'll stop at nothing to carry out this deadly mission.

AN ANGEL TEMPTED
Idess is an earthbound angel with a wild side, sworn to protect the human Lore is targeting. She's determined to thwart her wickedly handsome adversary by any means necessary-even if that means risking her vow of eternal chastity. But what begins as a simple seduction soon turns into a passion that leaves both angel and demon craving complete surrender. Torn between duty and desire, Lore and Idess must join forces as they battle their attraction for each other. Because an enemy from the past is rising again-one hellbent on vengeance and unthinkable destruction.

Lore is an assassin and we met him back when he was being paid to kill the Seminus brothers. Who also happened to be HIS brothers, but he didn't know that at the time. It's all water under the bridge... sorta. Because his latest task is to kill Kynan — you know, the guy he saved in the last book. Doing so will alienate his newfound family, but not doing it will see his sister destroyed. Oh, and Kynan is protected in more ways than anyone knows. How is Lore to complete his mission when a gorgeous angel is standing in his way?

Idess is that angel. She's an almost-angel tasked with protecting her primori and Kynan is one of them. But someone out there is targeting her charges and there is so much more to this plot than even I expected. I was thrilled with the forbidden element to what Idess and Lore shared and I was entertained by this book right up until its last page.

Ever get so distracted by the story that when a twist comes up that you should have predicted but didn't, all you can do is shake your head and laugh at yourself? Well, that was me. I knew something was coming, but the author wrote this story in such a way that I was wholly enamored with the characters and forgot to suss out the twist that knocked me on my ass.

In the end, and I'm sorry if this spoils it for anyone else, but I'm glad Roag got just what he deserved.

Guest appearances: all of the seminus demons and their mates (and Sin), Reaver, Azagoth, other angels, other demons.

Ecstasy Unveiled by Larissa Ione

I also read the companion novella of the series, Demonica #3.5 (which takes place before Ecstasy Unveiled):

Eternity Embraced

Demon slayer Andrea Cole has always taken down the demons and vampires she hunts without mercy. But when a fellow slayer is captured and turned into a vampire by a sadistic monster, she must choose between loyalty to her family and the man she loves.

Kaden Quinn has dedicated his life to slaying vampires, so when he is turned into one, his greatest nightmare comes to life. And when the woman he loves is thrown into a dungeon with him ― as food ― he must battle new instincts and old desires, and choose between his life, and hers.

I gave this 4 stars. It was a really quick read (maybe five minutes) and gave us more insight into the lives of the Aegi and the prejudice they have against demons and the like. On a mission, Kaden was turned into a vampire, but the love of his life, Andrea, doesn't care. She loves him still and wants to be with him and the safest place for them is with Tayla's cell. She and Eidolon make an appearance. The End.

FORBIDDEN TEMPTATIONS
Serena Kelley is an archaeologist and treasure hunter-and a woman with a secret. Since she was seven, she's been the keeper of a powerful charm that grants her health and immortality . . . as long as she stays a virgin. But Serena isn't all that innocent. And when a dangerously handsome stranger brings her to the brink of ecstasy, she wonders if she's finally met the one man she cannot resist.

FATAL DESIRES
Wraith is a Seminus demon with a death wish. But when an old enemy poisons him, he must find Serena and persuade her to give him the only known antidote in the universe-her charm. Yet, as she begins to surrender to his seductions and Wraith senses the cure is within his grasp, he realizes a horrible He's falling for the woman whose life he must take in order to save his own.

Wraith was so much more than the male I expected him to be. In the previous books, he seemed to basically coast through life, doing what he wanted and damn the consequences. Once he realized that the suffering he didn't bear was being expended on his brother, it was the wakeup call he needed. Now that he was dying from an uncurable poison, he had to get his act together. But really, a male can only change so much.

Serena was a charmed human, which gave her a feeling of invincibility. Remaining a virgin solidified her immortality. What happens when the one man she can't resist wants the very thing she cannot give?

This story gave so much depth to Wraith's character and despite his many lies to Serena, I loved the way their relationship developed. He may have all of the physical strength, but she had tons of spirit and whenever she gave as good as she got from him, I was right there cheering her on.

The second story under it all was furthering the romance between Gem and Kynan and I really liked seeing some of the turmoil they had to go through to get to the happiness waiting for them on the other side of it.

Wraith ended up being an incredible hero, not just for the sake of his relationship with Serena, but because of what he did for everyone in the world. I'm sure he won't let anyone forget all of the good he's done and I'm excited to see how this all fits in the stories to come. Their newfound brother's book is next and I've already got it downloaded.

Previous book in the series: Pleasure Unbound

Runa Wagner never meant to fall in love with the sexy stranger who seemed to know her every deepest desire. But she couldn't resist the unbelievable passion that burned between them, a passion that died when she discovered his betrayal and found herself forever changed. Now, determined to make Shade pay for the transformation that haunts her, Runa searches for him, only to be taken prisoner by his darkest enemy.

A Seminus Demon with a love-curse that threatens him with eternal torment, Shade hoped he'd seen the last of Runa and her irresistible charm. But when he wakes up in a dank dungeon chained next to an enraged and mysteriously powerful Runa, he realizes that her effect on him is more dangerous than ever. As their captor casts a spell that bonds them as lifemates, Shade and Runa must fight for their lives and their hearts-or succumb to a madman's evil plans.

Ever since I learned that Shade and Runa broke up because she caught him in bed with two females, I wondered how the author was going to make them get together again. Seriously, I wouldn't touch him again with a ten-foot pole. Yet here I am, at the end, giving this book five stars because the relationship between these two worked so well for me.

Runa — an innocent woman who was turned into a werewolf against her will. She's angry about the changes to her life and Shade plays a huge role in that. She's sweet and strong and such a wonderful heroine. I wanted her to have the best of happy endings.

"I will bear this pain for you," he swore. "If one of us has to bleed, it will be me. It'll always be me."

Shade — like his brothers, he's on the verge of a major change. Unlike his brothers, he's not looking for a mate because of his curse. If he falls in love he'll experience a fate worse than death. Runa is his greatest temptation and he has to do whatever it takes to resist.

Runa brought out the best in him when he'd believed there was no best in him.

While the subplot continued from the last book, there was so much more going on here. There was betrayal, brotherly love, the romance that was building between Shade and Runa, some red room type of behavior, whatever was brewing between Gem and Kynan (I'm here for it), and tons I'm looking forward to in the books to come.

Seriously, if you love fierce and kind-hearted warrior females, lethal and compassionate males, and the entertaining plots they find themselves in, you'll enjoy this book as much as I did.

The Mad Tatter, The Confessions of a True Womanizer, and Coveted

June 26, 2024

Hello and Happy Wednesday. I hope your week is off to a great start!
I'm sharing three books I read and quite enjoyed and maybe you'll find something here to read too!

The Mad Tatter by JM Darhower

The Mad Tatter by J.M. Darhower

Contemporary Romance, hero pov

Reece Hatfield has just one rule when it comes to falling in don't fucking do it. There's no room in his life for another person. He can barely keep a handle on things as it is. A shadow of the man he used to be, Reece spends his days tattooing, the artist inside of him longing for the chance to do something different. Avery Moore is all dance, all the time. Ballet is all she's ever known, and she's damn good at it. Her body is her art, a living canvas that captivates Reece the first time he lays his eyes on her. He yearns to leave his mark on her body... in more ways than one. The tattooed degenerate with a shady past. The beautiful ballerina with a bright future. They live in different worlds, yet somehow, they fit. But just because they fit doesn't mean they belong together. Cracks sometimes form. Two pieces don't always make a whole. The course of love never did run smoothly. Things get messy. And Reece doesn't do messy. Not anymore.

Rating -

Can't say I was blown away by this book. It had some good elements, but for my first read of this author, I'm not extremely impressed. Maybe it's because I'm ignorant of the NY laws on trespassing and graffiti but Rhys seems to be comparable to a thief or something equally heinous. I understand that a felony was committed multiple times, but it seemed so dramatically serious in this book. It just didn't seem realistic to me and threw me off from really enjoying the story. He's a great dad. A fantastic artist. A good guy who wants to be more than. So why the emphasis that he is the equivalent of trailer trash? Because he has tattoos? Loves graffiti and other means of art? Had a child out of wedlock? I'm not getting it. Dude went to Columbia. Even I know that means something. Ah well. I don't regret reading this book. I really liked Litle Miss. Too cute!

The Confessions of a True Womanizer by Rod Ballard

The Confessions of a True Womanizer by Rod Ballard

Contemporary Romance, hero pov, cheating

Romeo Roosevelt was raised in a household where he witnessed his father abuse and cheat on his mother. After Romeo’s mother left his father—Romeo grew up taking on one characteristic of his father—being a “Womanizer!” Blessed with his father’s good looks and deceiving ways—Romeo’s sexy swagger and enticing demeanor makes him irresistible to women. Jumping from woman to woman was all Romeo knew. When Romeo reunites with his first love—he finds himself wanting to change for the better. Can Romeo’s first love make him give up his lust for women or will she just be another Confession of a True Womanizer?

Rating -

This was an intriguing look into the heart and mind of a "womanizer", told through the eyes and voice of one.

Romeo was his name. How apropos. Seems like his parents knew what he would try to be when they named him. He was a playa like his daddy and learned the hard way that some games shouldn't be played.

Honestly, the premise of this story was really good. I always enjoy a book with the male POV, especially when he's a reforming manwhore. I really liked how Romeo's family dynamic was described. They obviously believed that it takes a village to raise a child. Romeo had not only his mother and brother, but also solid grandparents, a fun and protective uncle in Pretty Ricky, and a best friend in his cousin Brian. This was definitely a close-knit family.

I'm not going to get into the plot because I would like to encourage everyone to read the book themselves. However, I am going to give my honest opinion on certain things.

Likes:
- overall idea for the story
- the authenticity of the characters
- the glimpses given to illustrate character development
- the balance of humour and levity throughout the dialogue and narration
- the descriptive chapter headings

Dislikes:
- I'm not sure if it's just my copy, but the dialogue between characters was hard to follow. Each line was written and included as part of the narrative and it was difficult to differentiate between who was saying what
- not all sequence changes were seamless
- to me, the pacing was a little bit too fast

In the end, there was a very short and sweet HEA, which I really appreciated. This is the first published work from this author and based on what I've rad, I can see a promising future for him. He's got some serious writing chops and I think lovers of romance should absolutely give this book a chance.

Contemporary Romance

Roc knew that Yanna E. Hill was his the moment that he laid eyes on her. Yet, it was not until five years ago that he claimed her, and, ever since, she has been under his love and protection. He is obsessed with her. She is addicted to him. This passionate couple has been living in enduring and undying love... until now. Suddenly, chaos erupts. Roc has no idea which crime family could be behind these sudden attacks, but he is desperate to find out, while he protects his precious jewel, Yanna. Meanwhile, Yanna is fighting to protect her own precious jewel; her heart. Beyond the present threat of danger, Yanna sees Roc's closest loved ones as yet another threat to their relationship, and she doesn't know how long she can continue this fight that she has been battling for decades.

With a past that can destroy their future, and a present that can take them from one another forever, will this loving couple last to see happily ever after?

Rating -

This was my first time reading an inter-racial romance novel... And I loved it. I told my daughter I need some Roc in my life lol. I just wish some of the scenes were more detailed and that the "bad guy's" comeuppance was more thorough or more harsh I guess. Otherwise a very enjoyable read for me.

Standalone - Royal Artifactual Guild #1
Release - October 15, 2024
Genre - Fantasy Romance / marriage of convenience
POV - Dual 1st person
Heat - explicit
Source - eARC from NetGalley
Length - 432 pages

As a Holder’s daughter, Aspeth Honori knows the importance of magical artifacts . . . which is why it’s a disaster that her father has gambled all theirs away. Now that her family is in danger of losing their hold—and their heads—if anyone finds out the truth, Aspeth decides to do something about it. She’ll join the Royal Artifactual Guild and the adventurers who explore ancient underground ruins to retrieve the coveted arcane items.

It’s a great plan—with one big problem. The guild won’t let her train because she’s a woman. Aspeth needs a chaperone of some kind. The best way to get around this problem? Marry someone who will let her become an apprentice. Who better than a surly guild member who requires a favor of his own? He’s a minotaur (it’s fine) who is her teacher (also fine) . . . and he’s about to go into rut (which is where it gets tricky). He also has no idea she’s a noble (oops), and he’ll want nothing to do with her if he discovers her real identity.

Now Aspeth just has to pass the guild tests, thwart a fortune hunter, and save her hold—oh, and survive a rut with her monstrous, horned husband, whom she might be falling in love with.

It’s time to dig deep. Literally.

Bull Moon Rising offered up so many goodies to entice a reader like me:

* monster romance

* marriage of convenience

* sexy and grumpy minotaur

* haughty and optimistic heroine

* interesting plot

* several side characters with endearing qualities

* made up history and archaelogical digs

Aspeth has always been intrigued by artifacts and has spent her life reading about the history and discovery of them. When her father gambles away the last of their most valuable artifacts, she decides that it's up to her to save their hold. Along with her best friend and maid, Gwenna, she travels to the guild to become a fledgling, hoping to grab a few artifacts for herself.

What she didn't count on was the immediate dismissal from the members of the guild. It was definitely a men's club and I loved how Aspeth didn't take any of their crap. She was there and she wasn't leaving without the chance to prove herself able. Booksmart and courageous, she was easy to root for.

My favorite character was Hawk, for many reasons. He was someone who lived with the guild without really being a part of it. His race was used and abused and discriminated against and still Hawk acted with honor and respect and devotion. He was such a wonderful male and I lived for his irritable attitude and movements, his self-reflections, and his growing feelings for Aspeth.

I thought this story would be absolutely filthy, but it wasn't. It had its moments, but this was a story about discovery—of self and of wonders.

Ruby Dixon is an author of Science Fiction Romance. She likes fated mates, baby-filled epilogues, and cinnamon roll heroes. She also likes to write biographies of herself in the third person, because it feels more important that way.

Ruby also loves coffee and dirty books and will probably be a cat lady at some point. :)
