The explosive finale of The Cloister Series.

Trapped.
Beaten.
Broken.

Adam destroyed himself to save me. At first, I doubt if I have the strength to go on. But with every second that passes, I seethe and curse the Prophet. My time as a Maiden is over. I refuse to be a toy in his game any longer. But there’s always more ways for the Prophet to get to me, to use me, and to keep me under his influence. Will I be strong enough to break free?

My Review - 5✰s

I had so many thoughts and hopes and wants and dreams when I started this book. As the conclusion to the Cloister trilogy, I wondered how the author would wrap it up.

✣ If/when Adam would get down from the cross… He was the hero of the story so I assumed he would find his way off that thing. And then what would he do? Work with his mother? Create his own plan with Noah? Help Delilah? I didn’t really care what his plan was as long as he was victorious in the end. I loved Adam!!
✣ Would Delilah finally achieve vengeance for her sister, Georgia? Her attempts so far were lackluster and I’m still not sure why she had to go so far in order to do what she insisted on doing. However, I admired her conviction. Can’t fault her for that. Despite the odds not being in her favor, this young woman continued with her struggles to get to the truth. Through pain and tears and sorrow and loss, she didn’t give up and I respected that.
No more lambs to the slaughter, not if I can help it.
✣ Would Delilah have to marry the depraved senator? As sick as the man was, he might be her only chance to flee the cult.
✣ Can someone please kill Grace? How about the prophet?

The author gave me all that I was looking for and more. This was a complex tale that deserved a complex end and Celia Aaron delivered. The Church brought me back into the darkness of the Cloister and with its many moving parts, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen next. It was full of surprises, betrayals, truths, and delusions. It ended up being a story of justice and redemption with an epic love woven throughout.
... a vow is created between us. A bond forged in pain and loss. A bond that cannot be broken.
The author’s prose was beautiful, the characters were incandescent, and the plot was not only dark, twisted and wicked, it was engaging, entertaining, and evocative.

This entire series was a haunting and emotional journey. It had moments of hopelessness and doubt. It generated feelings of vulnerability and self-awareness. It was also a startling and at times frightening glimpse of the lives of those who were victims and pawns of the one who manipulated many. They never stopped fighting and, best of all, they never stopped loving.

My reviews of the previous books:
The Maiden - Book 1
The Prophet - Book 2

I can’t save myself from the Cloister, and maybe I never could. The Prophet grows more dangerous by the day. His delusions are steeped in blood, and if I’m not careful, that blood will be my own. Despite the growing risk, I still continue the search for the truth, no matter if the thorny path eventually twists back to Adam, guilt in his dark eyes. I’ve seen glimpses of his soul, and I know there is more to him than the monster, but it’s so hard to reach him. I knew when I came here that I’d have to fight, I just didn’t realize the war would be waged on so many fronts.

Author’s Note: If you have a trigger, this book will pull it.

I joined the Cloister to find the truth. But I've discovered so much more, and the darkness here is seducing me, pulling me down until all I can think of is him. Adam Monroe, the Prophet's son, a dark prince to an empire that grows by the day. He is tasked with keeping me safe from the wolves of the outside world. But the longer I stay at the Cloister, the more I realize the wolves are already inside and under the Prophet's control. If Adam discovers the real reason I'm here, he'll bay for my blood with the rest of them. Until then, I will be Delilah, an obedient servant of the Prophet during the day and Adam's Maiden at night.
