A Reckless Note by Lisa Renee Jones
It all started with a note, just a simple note hand written by a woman I didn't know, never even met. But in that note is perhaps every answer to every question I've ever had in my life. And because of that note, I look for her, but find him. I'm drawn to his passion, his talent, a darkness in him that somehow becomes my light, my life. Kace August is rich, powerful, a rockstar of violins, a man who is all tattoos, leather, good looks and talent. He has a wickedly sweet ability to play the violin, seducing audiences worldwide. Now, he’s seducing me. I know he has secrets. I don't care. Because you see, I have secrets, too.

I’m not Aria Alard, as he believes. I’m Aria Stradivari, daughter to Alessandro Stradivari, a musician born from the same blood as the man who created the famous Stradivarius violin. I am as rare as the mere 650 instruments my ancestors created. Instruments worth millions. 650 masterpieces, the brilliance unmatched. 650 reasons to kill. 650 reasons to hide. One reason not to: him.

Aria is a woman with a lot of secrets. While searching for her missing brother, she stumbles into a world she's done everything to avoid. But she can't resist the allure of it, especially because Kace is very much a part of that world and he is a man who makes it impossible to turn away. Dark and delicious, he commands a room and commands her attention without a word. A violin rockstar, he's rich and famous... and he's still just a man. A man who wants what and who he wants and he most definitely wants Aria.

"Once you go upstairs with me," he says, his voice low and rough, for my ears only, "you're all mine. And I don't promise to be a gentleman about it."

But again, Aria has secrets and while she knows she needs to reveal them to Kace before things go any deeper, she doesn't. And while he bares his soul, she gives him bits and pieces. Suddenly they're involved in a passionate affair and he wants her to be a part of every facet of his life. It's obvious that he trusts her. Now she needs to learn to trust him in return.

"I've learned in life that the facade of truth destroys more than outright lies." - Kace

When some truths hit too close to home, what will Aria do? Well, based on the intriguing cliffhanger, I don't really have an idea. Aria acted just as I thought she would and I can only hope that she steps up more as a heroine. I'm a bit disappointed in her and I'm desperate for that to change. Considering the fact that the story is being told from her perspective, I expected some growth from her and maybe that will be something that will be seen in the books to come. Honestly, I'd appreciate Kace's voice. He's such a strong character and deserves to have his side heard.

This book was very reminscent of LRJ's Inside Out series, especially with visits from past characters, and I'm still a bit confused by why Aria's heritage is so desperate and dangerous. How can playing a violin or enjoying music automatically link you to your history? There are so many people in the world who have that kind of appreciation. Maybe that is also something that will be further discussed as this story grows. I'm looking forward to continuing this trilogy and getting more Kace!

My car is already pulling up to the curb and I chide myself for the hollow feeling of another encounter with Kace that ends just like this, with me on my own, and no promise of more. I have no business being involved with that man. None. Zero. I hurry towards the black sedan and I’ve just opened the door when I hear, “Aria!”

At the sound of Kace’s voice, my heart leaps, and my belly burns. I turn to find him running towards me in nothing but his T-shirt, and now my heart is fluttering rapidly. He didn’t even bother with his coat. He ran after me. He didn’t let me go. He didn’t let me go. I lean in and speak to the driver. “Give me a minute. I’ll add an extra tip.”

He nods and I turn as Kace steps in front of me, his hand settling on the top of the door, successfully caging me between his big body and the car.

“I thought you’d come back by the table,” he says.

“I didn’t want to intrude.”

“Alexander is intruding. You would not have. And—about Alexander.”

That statement is a stab of reality. He’s not here for me. He’s here because of some battle between the two of them. “What about him?”

“He’s got an agenda.”

I bristle, embarrassment heating my cheeks. I actually thought he came out here for me. And I don’t understand this man or what game he’s playing. “What about you, Kace? Do you have an agenda?”

His eyes darken, burn, heat. His gaze lowers to my mouth and lingers before it lifts. “Yes. I do.” And before I know his intent, he’s stepped into me, tangling fingers into my hair and leaning in close, his breath a warm fan on my lips and cheek. “This,” he murmurs. “I’ve wanted to do this every damn second I’ve been with you.”

Instantly I’m melting like chocolate under the hot sun for this man and doing it in the middle of a cold October wind. I sink into him, his hard body absorbing mine. And then he’s kissing me, his tongue licking against my tongue, a delicious caress that tastes of passion and hunger. His hand slides up my back, molding me closer, possession in that touch that should scare me, but it does not. I’m lost in the intensity of my need for this man, a stranger I should resist, but I can’t remember why. Why was I supposed to resist?

A horn honks, and Kace pulls back. “You are my only agenda,” he says. “Don’t forget that.” And then he’s setting me away from him, leaving me cold where I was hot only moments before. “Good night, Aria.” He turns and walks away, leaving me panting and stunned.
