DOWN THE TBR HOLE #18

Down the TBR Hole was originally created by Lost in a Story! The point of it is to help cull your reading lists down, or maybe push higher anticipated releases up on your TBR! And maybe you all can help me along the way, and tell me if you’ve loved or hated any of these!

How it works:
➽ Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
➽ Order on ascending date added.
➽ Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
➽ Read the synopses of the books
➽ Decide: keep it or should it go?

Playing Dirty (Monkey Business Trio #1) by C.L. Parker
Avg rating: 3.83/Release: May 12, 2015
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2DsDX07

New-to-me author! I've seen a lot of mixed reviews for this one and I'm not sure what to think. It seems like an erotic enemies-to-lovers romance, which definitely piques my interest so I think it's worthy of a chance. However, I'm not willing to pay $10.99 for an author I've never read.

Mr. Corporate (Mister #3) by J.A. Huss
Avg rating: 4.01/Release: August 17, 2016
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2OOdGeV

I always meant to get back to this series. I really enjoyed the first books. So many books came out between releases that I lost track. I'm thinking of buying this series in paperback so that I'm forced to read it all one day.
Verdict: Keep
Perv (Filth #1) by Dakota Gray
Avg rating: 3.65/Release: August 17, 2016
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2RX3ClA

New-to-me author! I've been warned that this story is insta-everything and I look forward to getting into it when I'm in the mood (and I'm always in the mood for stories like these). A revenge scenario that turns into true love sounds like something I'll enjoy.
Verdict: Keep
Anti-Stepbrother by Tijan
Avg rating: 4.15/Release: August 22, 2016
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2TlAuWI

Has anyone ever read a book by Tijan they didn't like? She has a way of capturing the young people's perspective that makes them likeable. It sounds hot and I just hope that the heroine doesn't annoy me too much.
Verdict: Keep
Children of Vice (Children of Vice #1) by J.J. McAvoy
Avg rating: 4.40/Release: May 17, 2017
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2zf2fb3

I know I'm not the only superfan of Liam and Melody. To find that the author has created a story for their son, who I hope is as ruthless and as cunning as his parents, I couldn't be more excited. Maybe I'll even get to see my favorite characters again. This world of the Irish and Italian mobs is one of the best I've read in the last few years and I highly recommend it.
Verdict: Keep

The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Mackenzies & McBrides #1) by Jennifer Ashley
Avg rating: 4.05/Release: May 1, 2009
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2zf9IXU

New-to-me author! It's been a hot minute since I've read a historical romance. Back in the day, these were my jam. I've been thinking of trying one again and this one came highly recommended.
Verdict: Keep
Good Cop (Heroes of Henderson #1) by Liz Kelly
Avg rating: 4.12/Release: April 23, 2013
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2K7vP6C (currently FREE)

New-to-me author! This book kept coming up as a recommendation through Goodreads and I finally gave in and added it. Now that it's free, why not give it a try, right? It does involve a love triangle but as far as I can tell, it's not the driving force of the story.
Verdict: Keep
Happy Pants Cafe (Happy Pants #0.5) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff
Avg rating: 3.87/Release: June 17, 2014
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2K9M3fv

A cafe that guarantees finding true love? A non-believer? And a man who can't believe she doesn't believe? It sounds like an enemies-to-lovers match made in romance.
Verdict: Keep
The Bachelor's Promise (Bachelor Auction #3) by Naima Simone
Avg rating: 4.11/Release: August 29, 2016
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2TmCtdk

New-to-me author! This story has the trope the kind of trope that makes me weak: second chance romance. I'm a sucker for these stories. It also tackles something deeper and I'm interested enough to find out just what that is.
Verdict: Keep
Breaking Him by Sherilee Gray
Avg rating: 3.93/Release: September 5, 2016
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2Bbw51y

New-to-me author! I'm told that this is reminiscent of the works of Alexa Riley. Seeing as I'm a huge fan of their deliciously short reads, I'm interested to see how this one compares. I hope it's as smut-tastic as I expect!
Verdict: Keep

Sin (Rodesson's Daughters #1) by Sharon Page
Avg rating: 3.81/Release: September 12, 2006
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2TdTRkJ

New-to-me author! I don't even know how this one ended up on my TBR. After re-reading the blurb, it doesn't even sound like something I'd be interested in. Funny how that happens.
Verdict: Delete
In Your Dreams (Blue Heron #4) by Kristan Higgins
Avg rating: 4.05/Release: September 30, 2014
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2TjjPTV

New-to-me author! Another one I have no idea how it ended up on my reading list. This isn't the type of story that tickles any of my fancies. I'm sure it's a hit with lots of people, but it's just not for me. I'm not a big Chick Lit fan.
Verdict: Delete
Deliver (Deliver #1) by Pam Godwin
Avg rating: 4.03/Release: February 27, 2014
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2K9OSND (currently FREE)

I'm a huge fan of this author's work and her personality. I actually won a few books of this series, signed by the author, in one of her giveaways on Goodreads. They're sitting pretty on my bookshelves. I've also got them on my kindle. I guess I should read them, huh?
Verdict: Keep
Sixpence & Whiskey (Toil & Trouble #1) by Heather R. Blair
Avg rating: 3.95/Release: April 5, 2016
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2DJeXD1 (FREE in KU)

One day I was looking for a good PNR read and this book got quite a few recommendations. I wanted to read it right away but you know how that goes... I got distracted by other books. But I always intended to get to this one and after re-reading the blurb, I'm more excited than ever.
Verdict: Keep

Even the Score by Beth Ehemann
Avg rating: 4.07/Release: September 6, 2016
Amazon: https://amzn.to/2RWCO5i (FREE in KU)

New-to-me author! I've heard a lot of great things about this author and I really want to see what all the fuss is about. Have you read her before? I want someone to tell me more about her but I guess I'll figure it out once I read something of hers.
Verdict: Keep

I'm just glad I was able to find a few books to remove from my TBR. Wait... that sounds bad. I don't mean that I'm happy to delete them, however, I'm happy to have a lighter TBR, even if it's by a few books. Still sounds bad. Ah well.

And that's it for this edition of keeping it real with my TBR. Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Are any of them on your TBR and do you agree with my verdicts? I hope your TBR continues to flourish!! Happy reading!! xoxo
