George is a famous baseball player, a red-headed gorgeous mountain of a man. The tabloids love him, the fans love him, and pretty soon Wrigley is in love with him. A trip to Vegas, a lot of drinking, George’s sneaky, outspoken grandmother, and a whole lot of love have these two getting married Vegas-style. And everything’s fantastic. Wrigley gets pregnant, they welcome their beautiful baby into their lives, and all too soon, their lives are shot to hell. Family loyalty and a refusal to make things better have these two on the outs and divorced.
I’m no expert on all things LLV, but this was the most angst-ridden story of hers I’ve read yet! Here were two people who were very much in love and happily married, yet they got divorced due to unforeseen circumstances, stubbornness, and an unwillingness to admit wrongs. My heart broke for both characters because they were not only suffering needlessly, but they were still so in love despite their separation. They made so many mistakes in their quest to make things work, making each other hurt in the process. It didn’t help that the media was so involved in their lives, making their efforts that much harder, sometimes sending their progress out the window. But I loved that they didn’t give up. I loved that even though they weren’t together, they still had each other’s backs and were still very much involved in each other’s lives.
George and Wrigley were real and raw and broken and silly and over-the-top and hard NOT to fall in love with. This story was drama-filled and full of heart. With its amazing cast of supporting characters, I can’t wait to discover what’s next for this series.
