This wasn’t supposed to happen.
But it did.
This wasn’t supposed to be my life.
But it was.

I was just a typical girl, living a typical life. Nothing was out of the ordinary until tragedy threw me into a turnstile I couldn’t see my way out of. That was, until him.

I never could’ve imagined my heart falling the way it did. Hard, fast, and with unbounding beauty.

The only problem?
He was off limits.
Forbidden.

But he became my everything, and I became his, so we risked it all. It was only a matter of time until I realized that our risk came with unimaginable consequences.

My name is Camellia Hale and his is David Andrews, and this is our love story.

REVIEW

Secret Lucidity was an angsty, emotional, heart-wrenching, coming-of-age journey and a taboo read to boot! Camellia Hale had everything going for her - loving parents, a relatively normal high school life, friends, a sweet boyfriend, and a promising future as a swimmer. Until tragedy struck and life as she knew it disappeared. Floundering and drowning, one person becomes a beacon of hope in the darkness - David Andrews. But he was her swimming coach. Her teacher. It was wrong. But how could something wrong feel so freaking right?

This was a first-time read for me of this author and while this story was written beautifully and filled with so much passion, I suffered a disconnect to its truth. I blame Camellia. Because I didn’t like her. There, I said it. I know I was supposed to sympathize with her pain. I didn’t. And the whole time she was sneaking around with David, I wanted to shake her for being so damn obvious and pathetic. But alas, she’s fictional and my frustrations were left to simmer. However, I adored David. I really really liked his character. The author found many unique and intricate ways to let his personality and goodness shine through Camellia’s perspective and turned me into a fan.

While this book wasn’t the huge win I expected, it did give me the chance to sample some of this author’s writing, which is still a win in my opinion. I’ll definitely be checking her other work out!
