ARC Review: BENTLEY by Melanie Moreland

February 13, 2018

Bentley by Melanie Moreland
Three young men meet in university and form a lifelong friendship.

Their pasts dictate the men they are, but their present shapes their future.

What happens when these men meet the one person they are destined to be with? Can they fight their feelings and walk away? Or will they each succumb and learn the sweet agony of love?

Bentley

The leader of the group. He is uptight, formal, and cold. Rigid and set in his ways, always following the same path. Until the day, he stumbles upon her.
Emmy.
She brings with her spontaneity and light. The world she lives in is so different from his, yet he cannot control the draw to her. Nor can he explain the way she makes him feel.
Happy.
Protective.
Loved.

REVIEW

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was so sweetly romantic, but then again, what else did I expect from the author who gave us It Started with a Kiss? While there was a suspenseful undertone to this story, it was really about Bentley and Emmy finding themselves, finding each other, learning to lean on someone, and letting go.

Bentley was super proper. There’s a reason Emmy calls him ‘rigid’. But with her, he can be himself. His circle’s tight and in next to no time, it gets bigger with the addition of Emmy and her best friends. And the steady growth of all of their emotions and their ties to each other was illustrated with such detail that even I felt like I was a member of the group. Each person had their own idiosyncrasies, but while some might see them as odd quirks, their love for one another helped them embrace their differences. I absolutely loved these characters.

While this was Bentley and Emmy’s story, and I don’t want to take away from how incredibly beautiful their love was, this was a story about their friendships as well. I’m so excited to witness Aiden and Maddox find love as well. Aiden because he comes across as a fun-loving hardass (how???) with a tortured past that will definitely pique my dark-loving interest, and Maddox because who doesn’t love watching a sweet nerd find his happy? Honestly, it was impossible not to fall in love with all of these characters and I’m thrilled that I’ll get more opportunities to watch them all love and grow!
