Distracted by Her by Caitlyn Blue
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Standalone - Windy City Millionaires #1
Release: October 22, 2016
Length: 309 pages

Windy City Millionaire, Devlin Stone is about to discover that revenge and love don't mix.

Fifteen years ago my father went to jail for crime he didn’t commit. Now, I’m back to take revenge on the man who sent him there. He believes himself untouchable, and for the most part, he is. His daughter, however, is very touchable and well within my reach.

I remember Rebecca as a sweet kid, who took piano lessons from my mother. These days she’s a complicated woman with knack for distracting me from my retribution.

She wants to save me. I intend to ruin her. Things are going to get interesting.

My Review

This was a sexy and exciting introduction to Caitlyn Blue. If this story was an example of what's to come from this author, than I can only imagine much success in her future.

Told in dual POV, this was the story of Devlin and how he let his past and revenge change and consume him. Fifteen years ago, his father was sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit. For most of those years, Devlin thought his dad was guilty. When new evidence is discovered that shows his father's innocence, it's too late to help him. Fueled by guilt, anger and bitterness, Devlin was determined to exact revenge on the true guilty part. What better way to do that then to use that man's daughter to defeat him. Too bad he didn't count on Rebecca not being the best pawn. Her beauty, purity of soul, and her very heart beat at the walls that Devlin had built to fortify himself, creating cracks in his armor to "distract" him from his plan.

She's succumbed to my darkness. My self-hatred has found a warm nest in her self-doubts. And I don't have the strength to save us both.

The plot was both interesting and entertaining. I liked how the author played on the idea of the small town mentality and the elitist attitudes. The characters were incredibly well-developed and likable. I loved the way Devlin's darkness was no real threat to Rebecca's light.

She's saved me. And I've ruined her. The trade doesn't seem at all fair.

The story was sensual and sexy with a touch of intrigue and drama. Betrayed By Her is the next book in the series and it's about Devlin's friend, Garrett. I hope to see more of this couple in that story because I was a bit dissatisfied with this story's abrupt ending.
